Hi Lorry,
Only if you want to watch the race ;D Will the Group C paddock be open for close up viewing like it was few years ago? I think not last year so hence the question.

The support race paddock was open last year, they were just restricitng the amount of people they allowed in each time. If you were patient and hung around you got in.

I am so looking forward to seeing this. I have the picture in pride of place in my lounge it willbe fantastic to see the real thing.

One of the classic sportscars to make racing return.

There is great news for the Group C Racing series and motorsport enthusiasts in general, with the announcement that Mercedes Sauber C9 chassis number 05A, will be competing in the 2008 Group C Racing series.

The car is steeped in history with five wins during the 1989 World Sportscar Championship in the hands of drivers Jean-Louis Schlesser and Jochen Mass.

Schlesser, who went on to be the '89 world champion, also recorded two fastest laps and established a racing land speed world speed record of 407Km/h at Le Mans during the same year.

Appearing in its classic Mercedes-Benz "Silver Arrows" livery, the car will be driven by Australian owner/driver Rob Sherrard and prepared by race specialists Xtec Engineering.

Having been restored by Sauber in 1992, the C9 moved to Switzerland when it was sold to Mr Coxx Kocher, where it remained until Rob purchased the car in March 2008.

Rob said: "This is an awesome racing car with unrivalled pedigree and to be able to race it in the series this year is just fantastic, particularly as we have the attraction of the race at Le Mans. I can't wait to actually get behind the wheel and drive it in anger."

There's an earlier 757 though.  It's got a similar 3 rotor wankel to the 787.

787 has 4 rotors :P.

I did see the 757 on the list but I thought is was a normal piston engined car.
Well atleast I get to see a wankel powered mazda race car :p, to bad it's not the 787...

Not only will you see it but you will certainly hear it - wonderful! Take out any earplugs and turn off the headphones for the full effect.

Think I'll have my ears syringed just before I leave, to get the full Mazda rotary experience. ;D

It will do the syringing for you, and for free.  At the LM Story last year, I was on the pit wall when this beast came past.  Positively the only time in my life when watching racing when I thought I should have been wearing earplugs!

I had the exact same feeling yesterday when it came by on the Spa straight before eau rouge. Made some pics as well and two short movies, they can be found on drinkingforholland.com.

Here is the link:

The movies do not have a thumbnail, just click on "geen miniatuur", then on the next page on download film. The first film has the sound of the mazda, it is the last car that comes by. Second film is the start of the vintage F1 race
