Title: Where's the buzz gone?
Post by: Lazy B'stard on April 20, 2009, 11:26:58 am
Hiya,
I know there are many CA'ers not going this year but has the nations gloom and doom got in anongst us? CA is usually buzzing at this time of year as the big week away approaches- this year things seem, well a little flat IMO. Where is everyone? It's so quiet and I need to get my excitement juices flowing.  :-\

Well there is a lot not happening this year compared to previous years.

Obviously few people going due to the recession.
No Pre-Qualifying.
The new server seems to cope well so no threads about poor server performance.
I think Werner has the CA Guide under control and a band of helpers so they may be less talk there.
No Commer this year.   :( :(  So no progress reports on that.
Not being able to go though lack of funds etc will depress folk so they won't feel like posting amusing tit bits.

just my 2d worth.

Took out all the camping kit on saturday for a bit of a clean up - top anything that has been used or fire damaged.

Gave the Genny it's final shakedown.

Watching the 24 Moto on Saturday also.

Meeting with crew next weekend to finalise details.

BRING IT ON.................

Well thats a bit better ;) Its just very quiet these days, loads of people missing from the forum considering its getting near. Its lacking that spark that made one get a shiver of excitement every time you logged in.

Well the Posts and New topics are relevant but I actually doubt the use of comparing "Most users" on line.  Unfortunately search engines crawling the site count as users.  Given the new server is much faster than the old one the search engines will be in and out much faster.  So it may appear that there are fewer visitors.

New members is perhaps more interesting.    March last year we had 22 new members compared with 11 this year.
However, if we look at the first Quarter.  Last year we had 72 new members this year 88 new members have joined.
Also if you look a page views in March 2008 it was 213207 this year it was 326684.

Ahhh... Statistics!  there great you can make them say what ever you want.  :-)

Also as time goes by we build up a larger bank of information so may newcomers  don't have the need to ask so many questions so not so many replies.

I'm ready NOW!!
In fact Mrs Lord Steve has officially banned all talk of Le Mans round the house and she'll go demented if I "trial-pack" my rucksack and check tickets and passports etc one more time.

Oft heard quote - "Why can't you put this much effort into organising the holidays we have together"?

What sort of question is that??

Well as the missus said yesterday, 50 sleep nights till we go ;D
Then I told her, only 2 pay days :-\

Another reason for the drop in posts must be the drop in ticket requirements,  still seems to be some available thru the usual agencies and ACO (not camping I admit), so no last minute panicking so far trying to get tickets.
Wish ours would arrive soon!

Lets hope for some decent weather this year, we must be due some after the last couple of years!

Its my 87 , E28 528i, nothing special but there wont be many others about.

I'm going to pull the injectors and give them a clean, and do a bit of paintwork.

Nic choice RedStu - I'm taking the 1985 728 pictured.

7th year on the bounce for me and my pals, including a few new ones.  As excited as ever, on here everyday just never posted much before.  Joined in 06 so must have one of the lowest average postings around!

On BN this year for the first time having been on H, HA, MB and Mulsanne before.  Seem like it was the right choice with you lot being there as well.

Bugger! When i moved workshop over Christmas I threw a full set of mint doors for a E28 in the skip and sent a 520 to the breakers yard. It had Alpina wheels on it too!
Still have a set of mint front and rear lights if you want them.

Drop me a PM if they are any use.

You can't beat a good old luxo-barge for the trip, especially if there are more than 2 of you to split the fuel bills!

It sounds like my wife. I think the conversation goes like this:
Wife, "Where are you?"
Me, "I'm upstairs"
Wife, "What are you doing"
Me, "I'm just looking for something"
Wife, "You're not packing your rucksack again?"
Me, "Er, no."

Aghhh , youve brought me to tears, A set of alpinas would have looked great in place of the later 6 spokes from an e34 (had to replace the metrics) that mine has. You'll tell me next that the rear bumper was in good order as well.

I'm a bit skint this year, but all that means is that I have to use Paypal to order my CA shirt. That's what credit cards are for.

I've not been on here very much, and hardly at all the last 12 months, but just too busy. Buzz is very much building though, my mates have a countdown clock in every email on the subject (that will be all of them then!).

Trouble is with the ACO that tension is usually followed by "will my group of tickets actually be together or will they have managed to allocate me unusable pitches that straddle a couple of rows because Pierre who marked the pitches out on the ground turned the map around half way through marking them"  ;D

I walked through Houx last year and was amazed at some of the marking. Considering the pitches had supposed to be all the same size, the difference in some was unbelievable. Some had trees in the middle or tapered off to a point. Not too good if you turned up in a motor home and found you couldn't park it.

What to do what to do?

My usual co-driver has decided, as indeed I had several months ago, that it was not as exciting as it should have been last year and what with le credit crunch, Eurosport will be good enough this year.

However! I have the offer of 3 tickets in ACO stand and those lovely Astons in LMP1, no one to go with, but...........arghhh I can hear the Bells!

Once the LM week has started and reports start to filter back,  you will regret not going.  Trust me I know of what I speak. Back in 2004 after picking up my LM trips again in 2000 I decided not to go,  big mistake!  I had RLM on all of the time, and was like a bear with a sore head,  my wife said,  right thats it you have to go next year I can't put up with this again ;D

JFDI as we say.

I'm with you there, Geoff.  After our first visit, we reckoned we'd go every other year to keep the budget sensible.  After missing one year and spending the entire time during the build up and on race week, regretting our decision and feeling really depressed about it, we haven't missed since.

What's more, we then began to take our hols round race week, and enjoyed the Sarthe so much we've now ended up here.  Talk about getting it bad. ::)

Saturday morning spent in the warm sunshine sitting in Lagache watching the Aston and the P2 Lola zoom past, I am now truly in the mood.  Bring it on.  The buzz has certainly begun at Termite Towers.

This will be my ninth consecutive year, it took me a while to work out how to get there but it was CA that gave me all the info I needed. I've not considered missing a year since , strangely though there have been occasions when actually in LM that I've wondered why Ive come! However once the rain stopped and I dried those thoughts rapidly disapear!
Only a few more years and my boy will be old enough to come with me.
