2013 / Re: Beausejour Camping Pass for Sale
« on: June 05, 2009, 08:21:20 pm »
I could use the camping pass, if still unsold by next week.
Arriving by train Thursday afternoon about 5pm.  Could
meet at camp entrance or elsewhere?

There is a bicycle shop on the north end of Le Mans that will rent bikes for
a reasonable amount. Can't recall the name.  You could check with the public information
office in Le Mans, or maybe a local here would know of it.

insta.gator:
Camping is the way to go.  Plenty of campsites, but the good ones sell out early. For late arrivals there is
always Beausejour or Technopark.   A rental car can be expensive.  Expect about 200 euros for a weeks rental and
petrol is 1.44 euro a liter, with gasoil ( diesel ) about .20 cheaper.  When you do the conversions from liter to
gallon, and euro to US $, thats almost $7 US a gallon!!  Ask for a diesel at rental time.    Thrify.com,  sixt.com, ada.com

You can take the train to Le Mans from Paris, and rent a car at the railway station, or you could rent a car at
CDG aeroport in Paris.       Le Mans has good bus transport, and a tram to the circuit from the town center will
be done, so you can get by without a car, but  a car is handy to lock your valuables away.

General Discussion / Re: Crossing to Le Mans

coach from London to Paris, with dover-calais crossing, then TGV to Le Mans.
Enough time on the crossing to drink 3 beers on the boat.
On return, TGV to Paris, coach to London via the Eurotunnel.  Stay on bus,
no bar.  Long delay at immigration.

Forgot to add that if someone could give me a return lift to LM from London or Manchester on
Wed PM they would be rewarded with beer of their choice and some petrol costs.

I especially enjoy a cold budweiser beer(s)  on a hot day.   Is this brand available in Le Mans?
Maybe Carrefour?

damn - well,  now due to scheduling I can't arrive in Poole for a Wednesday morning ferry departure, as
I will still be in Manchester, so any spare seats can be allocated to someone else.     I may still stop by MB and
share a beer when I get to LM.  Stella Artois? Newcastle Brown?

looking for a Wednesday PM departure from the Midlands or Thursday from London or southern UK.  Thanks.

eeyore,
I may be interested. Sounds like you are taking the car through the chunnel.
Where are you leaving from with the car?  I'd be traveling from gatwick either
the day before or very early thursday.

robbo -
This may just work out if my schedule can be syncronized with the SPS, as
I would need to arrange return transport from central London ( or Gatwick ) to
the Portsmouth docks, maybe getting a ride from an SPS member?
I'm a amateur photographer, so perhaps I could be the photo guy to
document the festivities?

2007 and earlier / spare seat from greater london
« on: May 12, 2006, 04:09:55 pm »
Anyone have ( or planning to have ) a spare seat  to LeMans from the greater
London area in their car/truck/vehicle leaving Tuesday (13/6) , Wed or Thurs and
returning Sunday night or Monday?  My transport plans this year still need to
be sorted out, and I may need a ride from London.   Probably arriving Tuesday morning
at London Gatwick and could meet at a local pub anywhere ( near public transport )
in the greater london area on T,W or Th.    My navigation abilities are keen, as this would be
my 6th trip to the circuit.  I've usually stayed at Beasejour in the past, but still have no
camping ticket  this year.   Would throw in some  sterling or currency of your choice
for petrol  costs and some liquid refreshments.

Help / Re: American Sarthe Trekers
« on: March 05, 2006, 02:58:33 pm »
The quickest route is the A10 motorway out of Paris, connecting with the A11 motorway just
before Chartes. But, the A11 turns into a toll road soon after, and the toll from Chartes to
Le Mans is around #20.   Get off before the toll road and take N32 into Lemans, and save
the toll and buy a couple cases of beer.
