Isn't it a pity that Audi didn't take this view with the R8?  If they had actively pursued a customer programme we could have had lots of different teams battling together, all in R8s a bit like the days of the 956/962.  The so-called customer programmes run by Audi (Johannson, Champion and Goh) were very much controlled by the factory.

It isn't too late for them to do the right thing with the R10 though......

I have just seen the news that Renault have released their new World Champ, Dindo Donso to start his new job at McLaren.  But now the pictures are out, we know that in fact it isn't true.  At last the Stig has an F1 drive!

Don't worry, it DOES get better.  My son is now 26 and great company.  He is a good friend and we get on really well.  Ten years ago we would probably have set fire to each other given the chance.  There is light at the end of the tunnel if you are lucky.

I read on the BBC website that Richard Hammond has written about his accident in the Daily Mirror (whatever that is).

He says that after his accident he regressed into a childlike state, became obsessive and had acute short-term memory loss.

Question:  Why is it that I have got all these things and I didn't even TRY to break the land speed record?

So what's all this c**p about "Schumi has no personality", tell me someone who gets to the top of any sport these days who does not play the corporate game.  All this 'flawed genius' rubbish gets my goat.  If Button or Coulthard had even a drop of MS's will to win they could have done it.  Unfortunately we just want to create jolly good sorts who are always at the wrong end of the field. 
Remember that nice guys finish last.  What do you want in a driver, a winner or a personality?  You rarely get both.

It brings a tear to my eye too!  I was there that day and remember it well.  Back in those days you paid a nominal sum for a 'Paddock Pass' which gave you full access to wander in around the transporter and the cars.  There were no serried ranks in straight lines.  The transporters were parked all over the place and the cars worked on in the open.  I even remember a Lotus being stood on its wheel sideways to enable the mechanics to work on the underside. 
Part of the benefit of the Paddock Pass was that you had access to stand on the gallery on top of the pits and it was there that I was standing as the Big Accident unfolded in front of me.  It was like a plain crash and very frightening.  These were the days before debris fencing and bits to keep parts attached to cars during an accident and there were wheels, wings and other assorted bits all over the place.  I remember having one of those "this could be very nasty" thoughts but no-one was seriously hurt except for Andres de Adamich who broke his ankles.

Brands is becoming THE circuit in the UK with a mix of history and feel-good factor.  Please not Silverstone, it
's drab and you always feel as if it is built just for F1 and that everything else is just a nuisance.

Paul Frere is an absolute ace! although in his late eighties he test drove an Audi R8 a few years ago without any disgrace whatsoever.  When you see some of his contemporaries evolving into old men Paul Frere still has the passion.  Long may he continue.

Yeah OK.  Sort of forgot the Jags!  Do you remember the really cool BRG one that TWR ran in 1987(?) for, amongst others, Jeff Krosnoff?  It was the year when they entered five cars.

I was at the Goodwood FoS and saw a Rothmans 962 and came over all wistful.  I really never thought that it could happen.  Do you think we will get watery eyed over the Bentley/Audi in years to come?
