Just To Say Hi / Hello and hope LM 2008 is great
« on: May 23, 2008, 05:38:46 pm »
Hello all...

Just taking a few minutes to post a greeting to you all.  I hope those of you that are going to the Great Race this June have a good time.

I got to fulfill a long time dream last year by being there.  Met some great people, and appreciate the kindness and hospitality of several !!!   :)

The subsequent year has been a bit tough (family issues, several job changes...  those life things) and I didn't get much chance to post here or even logon much...

Anyway, I wish you all the best at LM 2008.   I wish I was going to be there !

General Discussion / The Western Canadian's experience

Hello all............    This is the sequel to my topic in the Help! forum    :)

I'm back at home in Calgary now and finally starting to catch up on stuff.  But I wanted to drop a note onto the forum.

I especially want to thank Piglet and KeithK for their hospitality, kindness and generousity !!!   Wow, you made my first LeMans a great experience !!

It was also great actually meeting a lot of you...  Always fun putting faces and names to avitars !

Termie...  Thx for the loan of the tent !

Give me a few days and I'll add a longer 'trip report' here about my experience, what I learnt and any tips/hints for some future traveller who finds this...   hee hee

Kind of an odd question, but I assume bank machines are everywhere just as they are here ??

Time appears to be passing pretty swiftly before this year's epic trip....

Whilst we don't have a huge US posse this year I think there are some travellers we need to find some camping kit for?

Those that need kit might like to post here what they need...

Trevor? - Mrs Termie has a tent - are you planning to bring any gear with you or do we need to put together kit for you?

We were planning to bring sleeping bags, hadn't thought about foamies....   Rain gear !  We can't bring camp stoves or similar as they will not allow them on airplanes these days.

And of course we are MOST INDEBTED to Mrs. Termie for the own or a tent, and of course yourself for making us feel so welcome to meet up and share the LM experience.   ;D

Trevor in Calgary....

PS:  it snowed again here Thursday and Friday, hard to believe that it is less than 60 days to late June !

Hi Trevor

I've just started a new thread on the general discussion section about what kit people need for this year.  If you want to let us know what you're bringing (not much I imagine?) and what you need we can start assembling kit.

I will check out the list !!

Question for anyone......    What station does the EuroStar use in Lille ??

Less than 60 days...  Getting Excited !!!!!!!

The SNCF website is well known over here as one of the most cr*p on the planet!  I'll study it a bit and see what I come up with.  Can you give me your proposed dates/times of travel?  It may in the end prove easier to book with Eurostar UK but I'll have a look.
Right.  If you leave Waterloo at 08.39, you arrive in Lille at 11.26 (having lost an hour).  Leave Lille at 12.33, direct train to LM arrives at 15.10.  The best way to book this on line is by using the "Voyage SNCF" link on the opening page of their site.

Thx Termietermite...        I'll have another go at the site on Wed or Thurs    hee hee

This is starting to get exciting...  how many days ??  must be less than a 100 now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
