Was inspired to have another crack last night after reading this thread, and went from a previous PB of 3:28 to a 3:19  ;D

Picked up some tips from watching the demo though - you can go through some sections in a gear higher than the flashing indicator suggests.

Done with a standard pad btw.

This week's MotoGP wasn't the most exciting by a long shot, but it's still a far more exciting sport then F1. You can't get downforce on a bike :D

Thinking of making a weekend of this, I think this may have been on another thread, but is there anywhere to camp in the area.

Cheers

Whitey

Was there for the LMES last year, and there was camping on the infield. Camping tickets were sold via the website then, so I guess if they're allowing camping for this, they'll sell tickets for it again...

I can recommend http://www.fotopic.net for hosting - 250MB for free, your own web address, etc.

I have a gallery at http://markbarton.digimig.co.uk which is hosted by them. There are quite a few pics on there, all of a reasonable size, and I've only used 25% of my allocation.

Help / Re:Cheap ferries!

My source talls me that Transmanche are being investigated by the MCA ( water police ) for running aground on too many occasions.

;D All adds to the excitement!

Did a quick search just out of interest, and I think your source may be a little out of date - the grounding was in Feb 2002, and the MCA's report recommedations were all the the Port authority rather than the ferry operator (although they weren't too happy that there was no "black box" on board!).

The full report's here:

http://www.maib.dft.gov.uk/sites/maib/cms_resources/dft_masafety_504273.pdf

I don't think I'm going to loose any sleep over it. Cancelling the ferries is much more of a concern though! For £15/head return I think I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Ferry club sounds interesting Rhino, thanks!

Aah, I'd forgotten about speedferries - Calais/Boulogne/Dunkerque were all vetoed by the drivers as being too much of a slog on the Monday...

Help / Cheap ferries!
« on: February 02, 2005, 04:04:27 pm »
Just a quick heads-up:

Have gone through the usual trawl looking for a good deal, and was about to give up and pay full whack when Transmanche (http://www.transmancheferries.com) come up with this years offer. Up to a 5 day return, Newhaven to Dieppe for £60 per car.

I used them last year - they're no frills, but have the neccesary bar and restaurant. The only ferry I've heard of that's cheaper is Norfolk Line at £54, but they go to Calais which is a long drive (and an even longer drive back!).

Feel free to vote for him....

Duly Voted.

And never mind paying to keep him kidnapped, let's just pay to have him shot.

I used Transmanche last year from Newhaven to Dieppe. Car with three passengers was £40 return for the Le Mans weekend. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some of the big names do, but the boat has food and beer, and it didn't sink. That was all I wanted, and for the price I was well chuffed!

I booked late, too - February or March I think. They don't get as over-subscribed as the big-name boats. Will be using them again this year, without doubt.

Edit - worth noting that the £40 was on a special 3-day return deal, but I still reckon they're the cheapest going...

Did you manage to book anything Steve? I followed the "Book Online" link and had a choice of a Silverstone Season pass, or any number of Red Letter Days type driving experiences, but no mention of any racing...  >:( Haven't tried the phone yet...

General Discussion / Re:Zoo magazine Le Mans coverage

Bumped into the same chap(s) in a bar in Conlie on the Sunday night, still taking pics of drunken Brits. The French locals got chucked out at closing time and the Brits got a lock-in, which was a bit of a result  ;D!

Apparently he was supposed to be doing a piece for one of the Sunday broadsheets as well. Bought the papers the following weekend, but nothing doing. Entirely forgot to pick up Zoo magazine (either that or self-consciousness got to me - I use that newsagent quite often!).

If anyone's got a copy and there's any reference to Le Mans in it I'd love to hear about it, if only to find out if wassername from thingamy really is as sexy as I thought at the time... 8)

Nice pic Raceshot  ;D Makes me think what mine could have been like if I'd been more sober (or remembered to bring the tripod with me at all) ;)

All these are 50% size - if anyone wants full size pics, just shout (or PM, in case I'm not close enough to hear you  ;D)
