General Discussion / Camping Bleu Nord and Sud

Hi all,

A question. The campground called "Bleu" which is right across the road from Maison Blanche, next to "burnout alley"... is that Camping Bleu Nord or Sud? I've been camping there for the past 5 years and didn't know that there was such a thing as Nord or Sud, or that there were two different Bleu areas. I don't have my parking pass anymore, but I'm told that the permit clearly states whether you are Nord or Sud, and the security goons won't let the Nord people mix with the Suds, and vice versa.

Perhaps a better question - where is each Bleu? Is one what I thought was simply Bleu overflow, that is a little further away from Blanche and further back in the field?

Talk about bad luck... The week I go out of town and don't have Internet access, a handful come up! Any still available? I'm ultimately looking for three!

If you've got them, consider them sold! I'll be once again out of e-mail contact for the first part of next week, so if you don't hear back from me until later in the week, don't panic... (I'll be here until Le Mans, so hopefully some more will come up as we get closer...)

Yup, I realize that, thanks. We have three vehicles going.

Worst case is we'll park a car or two outside, but it would be nice to be able to park together inside so we could keep an eye on them.

The lay-by is the proper bleu campsite. The bivouac area is a small area setup in the bleu car park for people to camp in - apparently to avoid the problem of people just camping in the car park. The bivouac supplement won't get you into the campsite.

You're better off waiting til nearer the time, plenty of tickets will be available.

We're starting to get "nearer the time", and I've dropped off the first page... Anyone have any Camping Bleu that they don't need? I'm not nervous yet, but the last two weeks before The Event I'll be out of town and won't be able to go begging... I could use a total of three. Please?

OK guys, I'm a little thick here but bear with me... I'm still trying to mentally locate where this bivouac camping is.

You head toward the grandstands, you've got Maison Blanche on the right, Bleu on the left, and a crowd of drunken loonies between the two. To enter Bleu, you pass the campsite and enter on the left. You then make another left to enter the campsite proper. To the right is a large parking lot - is this the bivouac area? If not, where is the bivouac area with respect to the Bleu lay-by area?

This is great, but can someone clarify something for me? What is the difference between a "Camping Bleu Lay-by" and "Bleu bivouac"? With the Bivouac, can I get into the "normal" bleu campsite?

I'd heard that before, but am a little nervous about traveling 1000 km without a reservation... Particularly as I'll be attending with a couple of newbies, and if for whatever reason there weren't tickets available, I'd feel pretty silly.

I may do that if there are no other options available, but hopefully I can help someone out that has some extra tickets they don't need, and they can give me some peace of mind...

So there's no organised shuttle-bus service to neighbouring towns during the race?

If not it's a pity - such a system is often used here in Sydney for major events (Olympics, football finals, etc), starting from all the major centres about 1 hour away. Most people prefer it (or direct train) to driving & trying to park.

No organized shuttle that I know of. Not only that, the N138, which goes between Tours and Le Mans, is a 2-lane, somewhat slow road with limited opportunity to pass. I come from the South every year, and look at the kilometers remaining to Le Mans and think I am making great time. Then I hit Tours, and those last, what, 70 km? take forever. I'd think about finding someplace in the city of Le Mans, or perhaps someplace serviced by the trains? (the TGV goes to Le Mans).
