TK? Seems like a good call to me.

Did anyone see the last 15 minutes of Top Gear at the weekend - certainly modified my view of Britain's contribution to the motor industry - I would recommend it if you missed it.

Considering yesterday's events perhaps a Help the Hero's t shirt day might be in order at LM this year.
Buy your shirt, support the charity, show your contempt to these loonies.
Thursday perhaps?
Comments?

Excellent idea.

General Discussion / Re: Alfa 159
« on: February 25, 2013, 03:32:13 pm »
I have driven Alfa's for 20 years and run a 159 now 1.8 deisel. It is a fabulous car. A smidge underpowered perhaps but comfortable and whips along on the turbo just fine. Pretty good economy too. I have driven approximately 700k miles in Alfa's and they have never let me down - even when my 156 popped a piston it ran very well until I was able to chop it in it had done 147K miles and owed me nothing. However I would always recommend caution despite my praise and love for this marque to anybody considering one - if a little rattle here and there irritates you to distraction or the fact that now and then you might need to tap a light to make it work - then don't buy one - buy an Audi or something less interesting. Alfa's can be a little 'individual' but like a naughty puppy - love them and they will love you right back. Good luck and enjoy.

Others can tell you the merits of BEAUSEJOUR but I can tell you with out a car or bicycle it is a loooong way from everything except the Porsche Curves.
Canada Phil

This!

Camping a Beausejour without a car will probably ruin your trip. It's a minimum of a 45 min walk to the circuit. And there's a lot of walking to be done once you get trackside...

I can't help thinking that perhaps that's bit strong AZ surely? I mean it is a bit of stroll that is for sure but there is plenty to see and do on the way - i really don't think for a moment that it will ruin your trip. So have a great time David - I am sure you will.

I think he has a great voice and adds to the atmosphere - though I must admit that I am not sure I ever heard him finish a sentence during the 1980’s and 1990’s as just at the vital part of the update an Aston or Jag or the like would thunder past - happy days.

Yes RIP William Walker. A rare bread of young men who saved the civilized world. GF you must be immensely proud of you father. We are all indebted to him and all of the few.

A detail - I am not sure the William Walker was the last of the few but the 'oldest?' I think there are still some alive but they were/are younger?

Incidentally, in the expression Hooray and up she rises, does anyone know what is it exactly that rises up?

Given the song is (allegedly) about male impotence I'm sure can work that out for yourself.   ;)

Dx

It’s about a sailor who had too much to drink probably during his last/previous night shore leave and is in need of A) sobering up (throw water over him) and B) punishing (put him in the long boat) a boat that was pulled behind the main sailing ship used as a landing craft, life boat, or place to store valuables during a battle- this was a recognised form of punishment (isolation) during the mid-18th century. The ‘up she rises’ is a reference to the sailors need to vomit - probably as a result of over imbibing rather than the influences of a turbulent ocean – though both may contribute to this of course. Don't remember there being any implied suggestion/reference to his ability or otherwise to sustain a hard on?? But what do I know. 

Strong rumour that Silverstone will go to a 12 hour race next year and finish at midnight!

I might even make the effort to go if that happens. Silverstone, just like the wife, looks much better in the dark. ;D

that would be great - I'd be interested to know what the members of the Silverstone Residents Association would have to say about that - they don't like noise you know.  ::)

Loved the race as always - and really impressed with Silverstone these days. Only comment - why were so many of the grandstands closed? - health and safety I dare say - at a motor race!!! Bonkers. Having met up with other members of team Monkey we headed - on my recommendation - over to the large stand between Maggots and Chapel (quite a schlep) only to find it - like so many others was locked up. I spent a very happy hour there last year, it’s a fantastic view from there. So that was really disappointing.

But overall great day out.
