booking the ferry about a week ahead the best deal I found was on SeaFrance. £50 per car for a 5 day return, and they threw in E15 of shell fuel vouchers.

We were on the 0930 boat thursday morning, but I had to jiggle around the monday return times to get the deal, not a problem as we planned to get a late night sunday crossing anyway.

Very good value I thought

How much would this field cost and how far away from the action would it be?

This year I managed to get 3 cars / 6 people over there for about £86 per person including series A entrance and camping and a good deal on the ferry. Having that as a benchmark I cant see my friends being too happy paying out much more, especially as I have always managed to come good with last minute camping tickets.

We found the tunnel closed on Thursday as well, the diversion was packed solid but fortunately I have a PDA with GPS and a month or so ago I got TomTom City Maps so i had installed the Rouen streetmap and we diverted right through the centre ville without many traffic problems. Looks like a nice town to visit

For the past 4 years I have watched the end of the race from granstand over the pits.  Never paid a penny for it.

How did you manage this? in 99 and 00 we spent most of the sunday early hours in the grandstand above the pits, but in 02 we couldnt find a gorilla-less way in and this year didnt bother trying

I saw a few groups of cars pulled over at roundabouts, but like Chris24 we didnt see the guys who were catching them, just the ones booking them.

At the last toll plaza before calais the gendarme was standing just past the booths waving people over to the side for a slapping. Again, didnt see who had caught them speeding, looks like they have stealthy radar traps

I've got a feeling that Technopark is a hard surface site, with electric hookups, so is more suitable for vans than tents.

But I could be totally wrong
