154  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: how many times have you been to le mans? on: June 05, 2006, 08:17:30 pm
My first was '78. Missed 4 or 5 between but have done 2 Daytona 24 and 1 Spa 24.

Probably the best were, in no specific order
JJ Lehto's McLaren drive in the wet
Roundou's win and Ickx tryin to catch him
The lone longtail 962 "almost" beating the best in the first year of the chicanes only to blow with 15 min left
Maxda's unexpected domination with 3 GP drivers hell bent on blowin the bloody noisy car up

I don't post much here but seeing this I feel i should add to it.

Having been a LM veteran for many years (20 odd) I am used to the drunken fireworks and assorted antics that goes on. In fact the firework displays are probably worth the entrance fee alone.

the one thing that really got me this year was the guys next to us running a genny all day and night, the machine was parked behind their van so they were not disturbed but kept awake 7 or 8 other groups. Despite a few polite requests the replies were pretty abusive in reply. We were at the site first so basicly had to endure it.

In the past we have had a few loud music campsites but they do finish at sometime and in reply we can make quite a lot of noise in the morning !!

I remember the spitfire in Silk Cut colours, glad I'm not the only old bugger still going to LM.  Smiley

Seem to recall they made Autosport as well.

A few years ago a couple were paraded though Houx Annex on the roof of a Range Rover.

Another was Houx camp during the Sunday departure drag races, all stopped to see this poor lad cycle naked past the assembled crowd he backed Merc not Jag, punishment, cycle though campsites.

There is a sneaky which avoids Rouen completely, and it's really quite easy

The trick is to take the autoroute out of Calais, pointing to Rouen as per normal, and head as far as Neufchatel en Brae. Just after N-en-B, junction 11, take the A29 where the road splits, as far as Junction 5 (You could take the N29) turn off to Yvetot. Take the small D131 road southbound, (don't miss it - Yvetot is pretty, but tight to manouvre through if you're still familiarising yourself with continental driving.)

Assuming you've spotted the D131, this takes you to the Pont de Brionne suspension bridge across the Seine (4 euro toll, I think) this somehow turns into the D913 and comes out at Bourgtheroulde/Infreville. A right turn at a traffic light puts you on the traditional N138, and you've successfully avoided Rouen altogether.

I find it takes about the same time as tackling Rouen in the mid-morning commercial traffic.

Anyone got anything to add to that route?
