4098  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Welcome as a moderator on: May 13, 2003, 01:46:51 pm
Why thank you Brian, I certainly don't intend interfering with the bonhomie and wit for which CA is renowned any more than is absolutely essential.

You guys understand the score already....and newbies are, of course, very welcome to jump in...we just want to keep it a place where people feel they can take part, and also maintain the site's credentials as a premier source of LM info

Can't you tell I'm new at this?  Grin
4099  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:So Smokie wot did you do to get a locked sticky topic? on: May 13, 2003, 01:30:40 pm
See http://www.clubarnage.com/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=147 for the answer...

Larry - my ignorance is showing through. I have a Dell laptop with a wireless network card. Will that do the trick? (Forgetting the risk of theft - it's only a company laptop anyway...)

Would I need an ISP?
4101  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Internet access from Le Mans on: May 13, 2003, 10:55:51 am
Exchange has a feature where you can delay the time a mail is sent. Not sure how well it works, but I've used it before for "cover-ups"  Wink

It wouldn't be the end of the world without it, but would be better with...so keep the suggestions coming!

Was it last year that some poor sods paid a premium price on anohter site and received some rather poor photocopies of the tickets? My recollection is that they had been sold in "good faith" and the guy gave them their money back.

Edited to remove direct references to other sites

SimonKE unless you want your account suspended, I'd shut up if I were you!!

Only teasing...no risk of being flamed... Smiley

I'm sure you'd noticed, but I've just been given a moderating role on this site. I've no intention of being heavy handed in any aspect, but one of my primary duties is ensuring the site guidelines are "enforced".

Given that one of those guidelines is No Profiteering in Sell or Swap forum then that's what we'll aim to achieve. It's never going to work 100%, or satisfy everyone. However, a more active moderation than we are used to might result in something closer to the guidelines. My personal view, and I stand to be corrected, is that "reasonable" costs can be requested (postage, even an allowance for calls to ACO - certainly no more than a fiver or thereabouts onto ticket price).

It's already been pointed out today in another post where tickets can be freely traded. Maybe I should guide profiteers towards those sites in the Guidelines post.

I'm wondering whether to delete links or references to specific ads, as that could be seen as a way round the site "rules" - if a person advertises elsewhere and then links to it from here is virtually the same as posting here. However today's post was to point out the crazy prices and was not promoting the sale, in my opinion.

Regarding "Offers invited" ads, at the moment I'm considering not deleting them, but instead adding a reminder about the site guidelines. Their fate will probably be very subjective depending on my mood  Wink.

(btw I know someone who applied at pre-q last year but didn't get his allocation - powermite?)
4104  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Internet access from Le Mans on: May 13, 2003, 02:59:59 am
Can anyone suggest a way I might get access to the internet while I'm down at LM?

If someone on Maison Blanch (Rick?) has portable computing I could do with 15 mins or so twice a day, at no cost to me!!

Or if anyone from one of the teams or ACO can help that would be good...

Any sensible suggestions welcome!!!

via email if you'd prefer... smokie@stones.com

Gilles - if I get no offers, is there an Internet Cafe near the track? Within cycling distance...

Simon, I suspect you've missed nothing...sharp as ever eh?  Wink

...and I'd thought this one had died down...

...it will disappear completely if the fight restarts...

...in fact it might go anyway...watch this space...
4107  Club Arnage / Sell Or Swap / !! Please read this before posting ads - NEW INSTRUCTIONS !! on: May 13, 2003, 02:11:02 am

In line with the site's user agreements, profiteering on ticket sales is not allowed in this forum.  A small "admin" mark-up to cover genuine overheads will be considered reasonable. Here are some basic rules for this forum:

  • Offers for sale to include offer price
  • Requests for tickets not worded to encourage profiteering
  • No links or references to sites which could be considered "advertising"
Posts breaching any of these will be edited or removed.

There are plenty of other places on the internet where trading is not restricted.

And another thing...

If you are looking, and find, or if you are selling, and sell, please post an update to say so. And don't forget to leave contact details (email addy maybe) or check back regularly if you are looking/selling.

Please note: this web site and it's owners and moderators take no responsibility for any transactions which occur as a result of any threads on its' forums.

Users should take due care to ensure that they do not place themselves or their assets at risk by entering into any transaction, and should only part with goods or money when they have satisfied themselves that the other party is genuine and in a position to honour the agreement.

Membership of this forum, which gives ability to post, is solely by free registration and does not imply the integrity or otherwise of any of its' members..

"Caveat Emptor" and all that....

Be a great way to "reserve" your team camping pitch - lay out the entire Bayeaux.

You could drop it back to them after, hoping it hasn't got muddy footprints all over of course
4110  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Any spaces / cancellations for this years Le Man?? on: May 12, 2003, 07:47:34 pm
Not more girls...that'll be five at LM this year then...

If you can't get Portsmouth then do Dover - Calais. It's only 250 miles of easy drive the other side...much MUCH less atmosphere on the boat but at least you'd get there...and for me the door to door time is actually quicker, due to the fact that they never open the throttle on the ferries on the Portsmouth route
