1  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Churros on: August 28, 2012, 09:56:13 pm
What are Churros called at Le Mans?

You know, those things that look like big chips (fries or frites for our American and continental friends) but are actually doughnut sticks.

My son has being going on about them and when I saw them I realised where I'd seen them before, but just don't remember them being called Churros. Huh

I guess you're all going to tell me they're called Churros and make me feel stupid  Roll Eyes. Maybe its the altzheimers kicking in or just becaue I have never been tempted. Huh

If any one has a photo that'll convince me for sure!
2  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Late ferry changes beware. on: June 04, 2012, 05:27:07 pm
I wish I'd known of this a week ago. I needed to amend our booking last week.......................

I think this is my last year with Brittany Turpin. I've used them for the last 9 years, but I think it's time to find someone who doesn't shaft their loyal customers.

Si

I think you're being a bit harsh, as you now know the reason for the huge increase. It's a good point that Slash made - websites just aren't always clever enough to do what we want.

We do Le Mans on bikes, and for a few years BF's website didn't allow more than 1 bike to be booked at a time (it does now), so it was impossible to share a cabin. Because of this, we booked by phone and explained that the website didn't permit what we wanted to do, so the person on the phone matched the cheaper on-line price. I had the same problem trying to make a free on-line ammendment that the website wouldn't allow, but by phoning up and explaining the problem they did the ammendment and waived the £10 fee.

In short, I've never had a problem with Brittany Ferries, only their website. If in doubt talk to a human.
3  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: How is everyone getting ready for Le Mans on: May 30, 2012, 10:15:46 pm
We're doing the long way to Le Mans this year on bikes. We've done via Spain and via Ireland before, so for a change this year its via Holland and Italy. Before you wonder how we manage Holland and Italy without Belgium/Germany/Switzerland its motorail. It might seem like a cheat, but it gets us to the French Alps for 3 days of fun before heading north for Le Mans - around 1800 miles in total.

So preparations have included new fork seals, a thorough service, new chain and sprockets and a new waterproof roll bag. I've couriered my camping gear across the country to Essex where it will be taken to the campsite by some of the party who are travelling directly by car (£6.50 through Parcel2Go if you're interested!).

The tent I'm taking hasn't been used since 2008 so needed a check over, and then  discovered the camping chairs have been attacked by mice in the static caravan they've been stored in! I chose a good one, and couriered it off, and then it will be doanated to the Pikeys when we leave!

I leave Thursday 7th, so getting proper excited now.

It's a shame as little things will be missed.

A few years back they noticed a pile of orange wig wearing dutch fans started getting excited immediatley below them (just in front of me), and then realised it was because the Racing For Holland garage door had opened following repairs, all unseen by the TV cameras up to that point.

A little thing maybe, but I like the little things in life!

Better LM racer than F1 in my view.

Isn't that everyone's view?
6  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Sea France down the pan? on: November 23, 2011, 11:31:53 pm
Wanting to leave Le Mans early Monday morning and having to ride back to Anglesey the Calais route is no good, and the only other viable option is the BF fast ferry from Cherbourg to Poole or Portsmouth. Once that is settled the price for Portsmouth - Caen is quite reasonable - at least it is for a bike. Perhaps just one way the cost difference would be much greater?

Did the LD  lines Portsmouth - Le Havre a few years ago and it was acceptable, not brilliant, but good enough.
7  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Streams for this weekend on: June 10, 2011, 11:16:13 am
The Eurosport coverage seems pretty comprehensive, but it's not the same without Radio Le Mans.

My internet connection isn't up to much so not sure if I could stream the sound and watch the TV, but I'll give it a try.
8  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Sir Stirling Moss Retires. on: June 10, 2011, 11:05:57 am
I've just read about this elsewhere but it wasn't clear if he was retiring immediatly or after the race.

Great shame not to race and deny the fans the opportunity for a farewell.

I'm stuck at home this year, first time since 2005 - TV just ain't the same!
9  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: 2010 Le Mans T-Shirts on: April 27, 2010, 11:35:55 pm

Could 100 years of Alfa Romeo provide the theme for this year's t-shirt?

The Tipo 33/2 or /3 perhaps.

 Huh

I was thinking of the same myself - you could add a 1930s 8C (howe/birkin/sommer/chinetti/nuvolari etc) and perhaps a TZ or TZ2?

They warn you that you can only defer once, but I managed to do it twice!

Strictly speaking they can only defer you once, so that means the second time they have to excuse you completely - result! Grin

My excuse was that I was moving house, and when my second date came around I lived 300 miles from the court. An extreme way to get out of it, but it worked!

I'm a bit skint this year, but all that means is that I have to use Paypal to order my CA shirt. That's what credit cards are for.

I've not been on here very much, and hardly at all the last 12 months, but just too busy. Buzz is very much building though, my mates have a countdown clock in every email on the subject (that will be all of them then!).

Just booked the Stena HSS from Holyhead to Dun Laogaire, then Irish Ferries Rosslare to Roscoff 4 days later on Wednesday 10th, going back Monday morning Cherbourg to Poole with Brittany Ferries.

Should be an interesting trip!

I've not visited here for ages and was shocked to see this thread. I kept wanting to jump to the end to see how it turned out, but managed to follow it through. It's amazing to see the progress you've made in what is a relatively short time, as it wasn't looking very promising from where I was sat 20 odd pages of posts previously!

Keep up the good work.

15  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: The ugliest racing car in history? on: March 20, 2008, 01:34:21 am

The Alfa I could live with.

But I would have to do something slightly better with badge arrangement.

How about this one? Just before they got too slab sided?
