I agree with the sentiment here, but - for fear of being shot down in flames - would like to make a couple of points!

Firstly, I think that there are still journalists on Autosport's staff, such as Mr Roebuck, who do realise that there are serious things wrong with F1 and who have said so. Secondly, whether we like it or not F1 is the thing that gets most of the general public excited. Personally, it drives me nuts that F1 is seen as being so important and I've always preferred Sportscars, but most seem to think differently and it's not surprising that Autosport try and cater fore the greatest number.

Having said all that of course, I would love to see a more balanced (more Sportscars, more historics etc.) approach from them and was shocked to see the Bentley having to share front-cover space with the Canandian GP - not even a full cover for goodness sake!

It would probably help if there was a proper World Sportscar Championship again, but I suppose that's another story....

Yes, you would have thought that one of the main channels might manage some coverage. Mind you, one might have expected some British coverage this year, seeing as the Bentleys were there (not to mention Prodrive Ferraris), but I guess everyone's too wrapped up in F1!

As for the Goodwood Revival meeting; it's fab!! It started in 1998 and I haven't missed one yet (here's hoping for this year!).

I'm new to the forum - I got here via ten-tenths and saw what a good forum this is! What a find all those photos are.

I believe that the number 19 car in question is the 1949 DB2 which was fitted with the 2.6 Lagonda engine (the other DB2s had 2 litre 'Aston' engines), chassis no. LMA 49/3. A DB2 #19 was also entered in 1950, as you have already identified, but looking at some of the pictures I've got, the 1950 is much more like the more 'common' (if such a word can be used for an Aston!) roadcar. There was also a DB1 entered in 1949, but its number was 29!

The car therefore pictured is, I believe, the Johnson/Brackenbury 1949 car which managed just 6 laps before it boiled its water away and, due to the regulations stipulating a minimum of 210 miles between water replenishments, had to be withdrawn. It did make up for that poor performance somewhat at the 1949 Spa 24hrs, however, when it came home 3rd overall and 2nd in class.

As for the other pics, I'm not so sure - I'm better with cars than tracks! I hope that has been helpful.
