Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: 2024 Experience

Were there fewer Brits there this year? Port on the way out (thursday, Pompy, evening) was quieter than usual and we saw less stickered up cars heading to the ports too. There were fewer Brits on our campsite by the looks of things. Ferry back from C'bourg on sunday night was so empty we thought we had missed the boat when we arrived and we were eventually joined by less than a dozen cars and vans.
Maybe difficulty getting tickets, cost of living or just a preference to go to Germany to watch millionaires kicking a sack of air around a field for 90 minutes?
Thoughts?

Prairie was appalling. The bottom field had no toilets, water or showers so everyone just pissed and shat wherever they could. The access road was already like the Somme when we arrived on Thursday and led to chaos getting out after the overnight rains. There were two poor young kids trying to deal with testosterone fuelled gammon who were making it worse by trying to get out of the mud revving the bollocks off their campers and digging ever bigger holes everywhere.
I'm affraid that if we can't get onto Houx or Eppinettes next year its going to be another stay at home and watch it in the garden year.

I should have mentioned, this year’s race marked the 20th anniversary of the Commer’s inaugural trip to Le Mans. I’m happy to report the Commer remains in the hands of the guy I sold it to and is partly restored. Currently tucked away under cover awaiting happier days. Meanwhile here’s a great YouTube link to the V8 Commer above. Smokin’! https://youtu.be/bxP7WiIUiMQNext June will be the 20th anniversary of our first trip down in the Merc Vito. The week before the race we took the bulkhead out, bought a bus seat from the scrap yard and bolted it to the floor. No seatbelts or windows in the back and six of us squeezed in. It was packed to the roof with crap and the back doors popped open on the M1 going over the bridge over the River Trent at 2am I remember passing the Commer on that hill just off the ring road on the way home. happy times Glad to say she is still in my ownership and going well at 198,000 miles young.

I'm still awaiting a reply as to why my membership number is not working at checkout. Have you tried loggin into your account first - does it let you in, and say the account is valid? Tried that. Nice Lady at the ACO has sorted us out with a temp membership number that has worked. Sadly the Epinettes in my basket have long gone so we now have a double pitch in Prairie to luxuriate upon. As long as we are there... we have bicycles to get around on

in q until 9.30 epinettes already sold out ffs
I had epinettes in my basket when it timed out. No doubt going to get allocated a campsite just outside Dijon if I'm lucky. I'm really glad I renewed my membership again

Well I've given up trying to get camping passes and tickets. I cancelled my ferry yesterday so I guess its 2024 for us. I'm heading to Tuscany to ride my pushbike down to Rome on all those lovely white gravel roads with a nice bottle of chianti strapped to my frame instead.

Just talking out loud is there much difference between Cabourg and Caen as seems similar mileage from Le Mans
Cabourg doesn't have a ferry port, it's a small coastal town just east of Caen! If you mean Cherbourg then it's quite a lot further than Caen, about 50 or 60 miles I think, Last time I used Cherbourg I found the drive to be quite tedious tbh. There is a very nice scenic route that passes through so lovely countryside on deserted roads and through some great villages with bars. We did it about ten years ago and ended up in a convoy of a dozen nice old cars that just tagged on behind us. If you have the time its a nice option

I've just booked Pompy to C'Bourg on the 7th and to be fair it was less than I was expecting. Its been 5 years since my last LM and I usually take the camper, so pleasantly surprised how much i'm saving taking the car down.

So the FIA/ACO who are not exactly awash with entrants for the top class are turning cars away? They do know its going to be a few more years until the big hitters return?
