1  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: You win the lottery - what cars would you buy. on: January 15, 2008, 06:24:34 pm
For me I think LM was at it's best in the mid-late 90's when Porsche, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes (and some ageing Mclaren F1) were there going for the win. (never mind that a notable F1 commentator stuffed most of them gearbox first into the wall at Mulsanne 1)
There are hardly any lidless cars in the lists below which is exactly why Le Mans should return to it's roots of proper GT racing. It would certainly not be an Audi R10 for me.
Everyday motoring: AM DBR9 - one of those nice new ones with the Gulf Colours, or maybe in BRG, or both - what the hell I won the lottery!
Fun Days and going to LM: I'd get back my old 1963 AEC Regent 5 Half cab double deck bus (Rhino - I put a bar in the bottom deck and we went to LM 5 times in it - took a while but they were epic trips
High days: I think the 96 911 Porsche LMGT1 was the best looking racing car ever (could be controversial but it's my money). I'd sure like to have a decent hoon in one.
2  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: ACO - is it worth joining? on: June 21, 2006, 01:42:14 pm
We ditched ours
We couldn't ever get the campsite we wanted
6 GA tickets was the max and we always bought them at the gate.
Weren't all that interested in grandstand tickets, preferring to slum it with the hoi polloi
The ACO area seemed as busy as everywhere else
The free programme etc never arrived for either of the members in our group.
If you can utilise your membership for another meeting then you're quids in, otherwise I'd say don't bother
3  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Two Sets Of Rules? on: June 20, 2006, 01:53:50 pm
The ACO did miss an opportunity to engineer a french win though. The #8 Audi did it's last lap in over 6 minutes which I think would have made it ineligible for classification under the new rules
4  Club Arnage / Help / Re: Bottled Beer or Draught Beer on: August 03, 2005, 05:33:23 pm
Kegs in France may well be different fittings to that used over here (we have about 4 types). Having said that I think their kegs are about 20-25 litres so not too bad to lug about.
However: If beer is destined for (and delivered to) the export market it is not subject to UK duty. Call up a decent sized supplier and ask where you can get their beer in France, they may even provide you with a fitting if the ones for France are different
5  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Aston Martin's racing plans 2005 on: June 27, 2005, 02:55:07 pm
We were at Goodwood too yesterday. I gave him the opportunity to say it was a pickup problem but the Aston chap that we spoke to said that the was a miscalculation at the last fill.

7  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Cherbourg to Arnage Route on: May 18, 2005, 03:09:54 pm
Seems like you're doing 2 sides of a triangle to me.
We had to do this one about 4 years ago when Brittany fisheries gave away our place on the boat while we were sitting on the dock at Portsmouth. Thought this way was a bit of a nightmare really, we went down to Caen and Alencon which was bad enough, I can't see how the West side would be any better.
Having said that, we were in a vintage double decker doing 40 flat out, so it put quite a lot of time on our journey
8  Club Arnage / 2007 and earlier / swap Houx Annexe for MB on: May 11, 2004, 05:26:27 pm

It may be more than face value but they are no more scammers than the package companies. think £50 for hospitalty, £50 for a £35 race ticket, loaded ferry and camping tickets etc. We bought a package last year and we have no intention of doing it again, I'd prefer to give the guy on e-bay some money than a package Co more.

11  Club Arnage / Help / Re:First time attendee on: February 03, 2004, 11:11:55 am
This year will be our 8th trip and it has only rained seriously twice while we have been going.
One of those was on the friday anyway and the other saw Johnny Herbert 60 secs faster than anyone else on the track in monsoon conditions.
Chances are it will be hot and sunny. Either way it will be epic.

We just look for the Goodyear airship when we get to town and aim for underneath it
