1  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Radar Detectors in France on: April 09, 2004, 02:10:58 am
I use a V1 system here in the States that picks up most bands; K, micro, and also laser (though if you're picking up laser you're usually screwed 'cos it's already pointing at you). Thanks, Dave
Shocked One other item about "Detectors" in the US: In jurisdictions where they are illegal, the "Authorities" also have a device called a "VG2". This is a detector that finds radar detectors.  Lips Sealed

Cheesy On the subject of "Circles on the windscreen", you could of course be using a GPS (if you have one).  Roll Eyes
2  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Re:1955 Le Mans race on: April 09, 2004, 01:49:46 am
Right you are.  Grin Interesting, quitting racing just to avoid the tax.

Sad Not exactly avoiding the tax but loosing the deduction for the expenses.  Cry B.C. was also the first to show up at a racetrack with his cars in a large enclosed trailer with car ramps and an integral machine shop.  Cool

Smiley No new `teasers' for a while as I am preparing to go to Long Beach California where I will be a marshal at the OWRS (nee CART) race.  Grin That will be followed the next weekend by a Porsche Reunion at Daytona, and the following weekend also at Daytona for an SCCA National club race.  Shocked I will be running the radio net at Race Control at Daytona.   Cheesy

(sound of more pages turning furiosly)
5  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / 1955 Le Mans race on: April 07, 2004, 04:44:01 am
Huh O.K., why didn't the Moretti entries compete?  Huh
6  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Re:1954 Le Mans race on: April 07, 2004, 04:33:32 am
Ouside assistance
Grin Exactly! They were leading the 1.5L class, had an off during lap 254 and were assisted back on track by spectators.  Cry The sister car (#42) led the class until it crashed on lap 243 and retired.  Undecided They would have been classified as 10th & 11th overall as well as 1 & 2 in class.  Roll Eyes The retirement(s) allowed the #47 Porsche 550 Spyder (Zora Akus-Duntov was one of the drivers) to win the class, placing 12th overall and completing only 216 laps.  Shocked As the French would say: c'est dommage.  Embarrassed

(mumbles to himself "I must look deeper into the chronicles")

8  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Re:1953 Le Mans race on: April 06, 2004, 02:07:50 am

Sad No. Only 60 qualified.  Shocked

Quote

 Smiley Right!  Grin

Quote

Smiley Right again!  Grin  Grin
9  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / 1953 Le Mans race on: April 04, 2004, 04:52:04 am
Huh There were 127 entries in 1953.  Smiley 71 practiced.  Wink How many cars (1) qualified, (2) started, (3) finished?  Roll Eyes
10  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Re:Daytona-Le Mans Trophy on: April 04, 2004, 04:31:23 am
You mean the World Challenge for Endurance Drivers ? That was 1978, 1979 and 1980.

Cry No, but you are close.  Tongue Daytona was dropped from the World Championship for Sportscars from 1976 thru 1978 and the `Trophy' was revived again for the 1985 & 1986 seasons.  Cool This was due to Daytona's IMSA oriented entries.  Grin
11  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Daytona-Le Mans Trophy on: April 02, 2004, 06:59:50 am
Huh What years did cars compete for the Daytona - Le Mans trophy?  Huh
12  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Re:Left out of the championship on: April 02, 2004, 06:47:29 am
The world championship stated in 1953, the first Le Mans not to count towards this, I think was 1956.
Grin Bingo- we have a winner! Cheesy

???After the Mercedes crash in '55 the ACO reduced the engine capacity for `prototypes' to 2½ liters, not in conformance with the FIA.  Roll Eyes
13  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Re:Left out of the championship on: April 01, 2004, 03:23:05 am
Huh Wrong, guys. It was much earlier than that.  Cry
14  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Left out of the championship on: March 31, 2004, 04:26:12 am
 Cry
What was the first year that L-M did not count towards the "World Sportscar Championship"/"World Championship of Marques"?  Embarrassed
15  Club Arnage / So You Think You Know About Le Mans / Who started . . . . on: March 30, 2004, 03:15:23 am
 Huh
What driver started the tradition of spraying champagne, what year, what car and what car number?
 Shocked
