Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Le Mans golden Era well and truly over???

We (a group of friends and myself) have been going to Le Mans since 1994. As most people we always tried to keep a balance between watching the race and having a good time on the campsite (beer, BBQ, etc...). The last few years we saw the number of "hooligans" increasing and generally the atmosphere deteriorating, so last year we decided to give it a miss and went to the Classic instead (which was brilliant). But we missed the real Le Mans and came back this year. The behaviour of the "fans" at the Houx Annexe roundabout was disgusting (just glad I didn't take my freshly restored Triumph). Around 1am we went to the circuit to have a bite and a drink. Sitting in a tent (it was raining) an obviously drunk moron in a blue woman's dress (that's right) came over and started pushing me over, trying to pick a fight. I'm not a fighter so just left the tent, but he came after me, saying he didn't want to hurt me, but that was what was going to happen. Luckily one of his mates came after him and calmed him down.
Then, on the campsite, the badge on my friends 911 had been stolen, damaging the paintwork.
So, after 13 times, I surrender and won't be coming back :next year I will go back to the Classic.

That's not mugging !
Here in Belgium road tax is much more. A friend just bought a VW Touareg V10 TDI. He payed 21% tax, an immatriculation fee of 3350,- pounds and an annual road tax of almost 2000, pounds.
Even for an average family car, let's say a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI, the annual road tax is around 350 pounds.
Suppose you buy a 20 year old V12 Jaguar, which you find in good condition for 3000-4000 pounds : the Belgian governement will charge you 2200,- pounds a year for the privilege.
In addition we have the highest fuel taxes in Europe.
Yeah, this really is car heaven !

Club Arnage / General Discussion / Le Mans Classic Campsites

Hi,
I will be going to the Le Mans Classic for the first time this year. On the ACO site you can only order tickets for Maison Blanche. However;, as we will only be arriving on Friday afternoon, Maison Blanche will already be pretty crowded. Is it possible to pitch your tent on another field/campsite, as with the normal Le Mans (for example Houx Annexe, Parking Bleu, etc...)
Cheers,
Benoit

We already have legislation like this in Belgium. You really can't touch the vehicle or it will not pass it's technical control (our MOT).
Even when improving the car from it's original spec (like installing disc brakes instead of drums on a Mini) and having an engineering report on the conversion is not enough. You see plenty of cars with tiny wheels to pass the test, only to put their wide alloys back on when home. Result : the tester has no idea what condition those wide wheels & tyres are in.
My car failed because it had Aeroquip brake hoses and Polybush suspension. So I went home, put back on the old hoses and bushes (they were in poor condition) and passed !
Kit cars are almost impossible to register, even when professionally build.
It's a stupid legislation that you should beware of.

Two guys go out for a night of drinking. As they don't have too much money, they have devised a cunning plan.
One of them sticks a big salami in his pants and after they have gotten their drink, the other one will kneel in front of him, open up the guys pants, take the salami in his mouth and act as giving him a blowjob.
"You'll see, they will throw us out and we won't have to pay anything"
They go into the first bar, order a scotch and after emptying their glas, they perform their act. Sure enough, the bartender says : "We will not allow such a disgusting behaviour in this establishment" and throws them out.
They continue this "blowjob" act with succes for the whole evening.
Finally, after 15 glasses of scotch, the first one says : "I have had enough, I can't take anymore"
"Yeah" says the other, " me neither, especially after I lost the salami between the 3rd and 4th bar"

I'll be at the Classic and taking my 7 year old son with me. Should be a nice introduction to the Le Mans experience for him.
Will try to take the Triumph to make it extra special (might be wisfull thinking considering the restoration is glacier slow)
