Steve, your on to something there. Maybe the reason stuff tends not to get stolen at US races is because half the folks there are armed to the teeth. Conceal & carry is a big deterrent to any miscreants.
Yeah, right. American gun laws are well known for protecting the innocent and reducing crime...

I am getting very impatient now. Still, less than the time it takes to run a proper motor race before the journey south gets underway. Have a good and safe trip everybody.

Sadly I don't think that vantage point is there anymore, but it is such an evocative memory.
Although the track layout at that part of the circuit has changed somewhat over the years, it does still offer some excellent photo opportunities. You may well get the same sort of evocative picture that Fax managed... Have a fantastic trip and I bet you will be back again next year.

At the risk of kicking up a fire storm, I would say that the race hasn't really changed that much since I started attending. Yes, the cars look and sound different, the circuit layout has been modified, safety fences and gravel traps have been added, the Village modernised and the fairground moved BUT the essence of the race and the whole event itself has been maintained. As long as there are cars (of whatever design) there will be people who want to race them and people who want to watch them being raced. As long as that remains the case Le Mans will continue as The World's Greatest Motor Race. God willing I will be around for the 100th anniversary event, and if I am I will be booking early!

If it bothers you so much, this thread could have easily been avoided if you simply read the title and moved on old timer.
Some things just have to be said.

Here comes the annual bore-fest about the music. 'Who is playing?', 'I hope it isn't a French band, French bands are sh*t', 'Even though they may all be dead, who would you really like to see?' YAWN, YAWN, YAWN. Ever tried watching the motor race? You never know, you might like it.

My son first attended at the age of 10. We slept in the back of the car and he did really well with keeping up with the long hours. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience and has been returning, exams permitting, since. One thing though. He was absolutely knackered for about a week afterwards!
