31  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Le Mans tickets have arrived. on: May 05, 2008, 10:24:30 pm
Anyone who ordered from tickettravel.nl already having his/hers tickets?

Sure they need some time to distribute their tickets, but it's 10 days now since the early birds have their tickets received from ACO directly

Not that I panic, but....
32  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: LMS 1000 km Spa Franchorchamps - Who, when, where... on: May 05, 2008, 10:10:23 pm
Les Combes campsite with 3 or 4 others.
You have Rivage corner nearby which is a great spot to take photos and usually provides good passing, spins and crashes.
It's quite a walk to the start/finish area though
Luckily that's not a problem for us as we have media access, so we'll drive down to the La Source media parking
33  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Interesting Car Registration Numbers on: March 30, 2008, 10:50:03 pm
Here in Germany you have to stick with the first part to your hometown or better to say County

I live in the county of Limburg/Weilburg which is indicated by LM
So possible Le Mans related plates are easy to get as you have one or two random letters and 1 to 3 digits

LM-GT 1 (Corvette Z06)
LM-GT 2 (Ferrari F430 Scuderia)
LM-HA 24 (Houx Annexe - Carthago Megaliner camping car)

Just have to win the lottery and luckily I've seen none of the GT plates yet - most of the people take their initials and year of birth...
34  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Best Racing driver by Nationality on: March 30, 2008, 10:41:03 pm
I'll agree with that, (and Jan Lammers) although most people wrongly think that Rindt was Austrian.
Well Rindt was born in Mainz, Germany but lost both his parents during an air raid and was raised in Graz, Austria and raced with austrian license
It was just the other way round with Harald Ertl, an Austrian with german license

35  Club Arnage / Help / Re: Stupid parking question on: January 23, 2008, 06:58:07 pm
If that is the one at the road next to the track to the Tertre Rouge (Carrefour) you might get in trouble as I think I've seen a gate there that has also a bar running across at 1.8m

But I've just seen it driving by to Carrefour!!

may be someone else has better advice
36  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: You win the lottery - what cars would you buy. on: January 14, 2008, 08:23:02 pm
everyday: Mosler MT900 - A/C, Navigation, sequential box, lusty engine with straight pipes
everyday: BMW 535d touring with some mods - sound system, lowered, 19" wheels, silver tinted windows with dark blue car...
winter: Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX (yes, not the X)
fun: Edo Competition Maserati MC12 Corsa (street legal which it's works counterpart isn't)
37  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: ACO booking confirmation letters on: January 07, 2008, 09:41:22 pm
Guess you're talking about my request.
I'm not ordering at tickets-2-u as their prices are 20€ above the regular prices. And one camping pass is linked with 2 enceinte general which are also 10€ above the regular price.

Anyone having experience with tickettravel.nl? I can't find a FAQ there, but they are resonably priced - which makes me a little suspicious as well
38  Club Arnage / Help / Re: camping at Beausejour area on: January 07, 2008, 08:52:54 pm
Sadly I can only speak about Beausejour, but I've experienced both versions of staying there

2006/general: On and off went pretty quick, the entry was manned all night long, at least at wednesday 4am when we arrived. There was already some action, but we got a decent place right behind the tree line. Porsche curves was a 5 or 6 minutes walk, facilities were superb throughout the whole week. They've cleaned the showers after every person
Getting to the village is quite a walk though, I'd guess 30min and then you're not at the Esses yet, if you want to go there which is together with Tertre Rouge the only place to get decent pictures then get yourself in shape.
Access to the city is also pretty good as you can use the street between the track and Bleu, turn right somewhere around expo and it's just another 2 or 3 minutes to the Carrefour parking. The way back to the site is easier via Hunaudières, the roundabout at the first chicane brings you back to the small road leading to the campsite.
Also it was still ok to leave after the race. Not quick, but in a way you expect it at such a big event. Downside is that they send you on a huge sightseeing tour before you reach the motorway. They send you down to Arnage or so and then turning left which makes it even a bigger round...
The people on BSJ are very friendly in general and a broad mix of all nations. For sure there are some youngguns making a big party, but nothing too serious. We've watched football WC with a group of norwegians back then, very friendly...

2007: The whole first part up to the place where we've been 2006 was fenced off by K-Reijser with extra access road and gates manned with security. This made the walk to the Porsche Curves a 15-20min walk - now you do the math how long it takes to the Esses. And yes, if you didn't have the K-Reijser armband you were not even allowed to walk through their town. Go all around...
There were not too many facilities and they were not regulary manned. Just cleaned in the morning. Imagine how it looked with all the downpour if you wanted to shower at noon...
Getting on and off was also pretty annoying as they installed some kind of military checkpoint at the entrance and also the driving was quite dangerous as the corner after you've passed K-Reijser was blind and 1,5 cars wide. 90% of the time there was some security guy, but the muddier it got, the less I've seen him there.
They've done good in putting gravel down at the entrance checkpoint, but the roads became nearly undriveable. I was glad I have FWD so it was an easy job to get off on sunday, but I've seen several BMW's and cars with trailers needing help

For me it looked like BSJ was K-Reijser. They've done all for their comfort but didn't find it necessary to give the "normal" people the used comfort. If I want mobile toilets, dirty as hell and a shower that dirty I'd rather don't take on I go to the Spa 24 hours.
If my camping ticket says "facilities" and highly enjoyed the early morning to (late) evening manned facilities in 2006 I except this again for the next year.

You were nobody on BSJ if you weren't K-Reijser

My goal is to make my 25th Le Mans at the 100th edition, so by my calculations I can skip two
I either find some tickets for another site here, or I stay at home. I would do BSJ again if there wasn't this 2007 edition. 2006 was fine, but 2007 a waste of money
39  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: New AM GT2 on: January 07, 2008, 06:52:37 pm
Any chance of a AM LMP?

There are rumours about a "new sportscar project for 2008" which read Lola, Coupe, V12

V12 doesn't leave much of a choice (Audi, Peugeot) but as both are not really willing of giving their cars to customers having a look into the rulebook brings out this
GT1 homologated engine build in at least 1000 units per year

Having a look into GT1 this can hardly be anything else than the AM engine - may be the old Ferrari is still possible...
40  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Stickering the car for Lemans on: January 07, 2008, 06:49:22 pm
Seen a nice one in TopGun design
"Us two characters are going to Le Mans" referring to the classic line "You two characters go to TopGun" from the movie

A German runs an old, rubbish motorhome that is probably as old as I am in complete SilkCut Jaguar design - he's usually somewhere around La Chapelle IIRC

I won't do anything more than old school BTCC/DTM driver name in rear side windows - if at all

I already have the "Alfa Romeo" logo on top of my windscreen, so it's racy enough even without the driver name
41  Club Arnage / General Discussion / ACO booking confirmation letters on: January 06, 2008, 09:02:30 pm
For those of you waiting for the confirmation letter that usually came in December.

A member of gt-eins.de called the ACO because of that and was told that the letters will be send out at the end of January/early February
42  Club Arnage / It Happened To Me / Rain clothing / english neighbours'/our gazebo on: January 06, 2008, 01:02:57 am
Yes it happened to me, the master of endurance racing...
Had all with me on saturday, went back to BSJ for a quick nap including a major repacking of my backpack - empty beers out, full beers in.
Then I've forgot to put my rainclothing back in and only realized when it started to pour down sunday noon and we were at Tertre Rouge.
We stayed 'til the end as I would've been completely soaked 'til I would've reached BSJ...
I ALWAYS have at least a rainjacket with me, even at the tiny Zolder circuit being accredited and a quick 5min run back to the media centre, but an hour away from the campsite I forget my rainclothes....

Shame on me

and btw

cheers to Bruce and his lads from some place called Shrewsbury,
whose gazebo cracked on thursday whilst they were karting and my mate and I jerked it over their electric belongings.
Wasn't a big surprise they've done the same for us on the next day
That's the Le Mans people you want to have next to you and it was a nice session of BJ btw
43  Club Arnage / 2008 / Too late again - decent camping tickets needed on: January 05, 2008, 11:01:05 pm
Not long ago than the calendar showed 2008 for the first time, but already everything apart from Beauséjour is sold out.
We've been on BSJ for the last 2 years and don't want to be there again.

So I'm looking for me and my mates for the following. Preference in order of appearance

  • Houx Annexe
  • Houx
  • Maison Blanche
  • Bleu Nord
  • Tertre Rouge
  • La Chapelle
  • Karting Nord

Ordered from another website - awaiting confirmation
44  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Update from MB on: June 18, 2007, 09:38:45 pm
Also pretty strict ruling on BSJ.
Not only that danish K-Rejser taking up the whole first part of it but also marked pitches when we arrived on wednesday 0330.
It already looked small and during our buildup we could see the Securité measuring the pitches further down - by foot!!!
I guess our pitch was only 6x4,5m but as our british neighbours came with a camping car it was no problem to move the barrier tape used to mark the pitches (asked the lads before of course)

Also huge thanks to the Sec's for not mentioning the huge ditch when leading me to our pitch. (it was dark) In the very last second he showed the stop signal - f'in....
The warning sign laid flat in that ditch the whole weekend...

If you have BSJ, don't come later than wednesday noon or you'll walk for ages until you reach the road at the campsite gantry.
I'll order my tickets tomorrow - probably 4 without knowing if any of us can make it.
I don't want to be on BSJ again - it was nice in 2006 on the first part, but if that is taken again by the Danish it's a disaster to be there
45  Club Arnage / 2007 and earlier / 1x Beauséjour pass for sale on: June 09, 2007, 09:55:15 pm
