She and Helen Stewart were integral members of the F1 community in a lethal era of the sport, frequently having to do the "dirty work" after the death of a driver. Looking after a grieving wife, cleaning up a hotel room and collecting belonging's, etc. After Graham's death, and the subsequent lawsuits, she didn't have much left, and did a hell of a job raising her three children. Hi Phil, Damn good to hear from you! Actually my family has some Scottish blood in our ancestors, my sister had a DNA test done, we're a bit of a Scandinavian, Scottish/Irish, German mix. In other words we're a Western European mish-mash. The official name of that tartan is Stewart Hunting Ancient, I contacted a tartan shop that does flat caps and they knew exactly what I was looking for. The only question was how I wanted the pattern oriented on the cap. Jackie has worn several caps of that tartan and they're all differently oriented. I opted for the blue strip down the center for two reasons, Jackie's teammate, pupil, and dear friend Francois Cevert had light blue stripes on his helmet, and Jackie's rival, and good friend (and my boyhood hero) Ronnie Peterson wore a blue helmet. I like to think Sir Jackie would approve of the reasons for my decision. Cheers, Fax

I hope Sebring Intl. Raceway is still there after this weekend. I think it's in the direct path of Irma, she's a mother of a cat. 5 hurricane. Spare a thought for our CA colleagues in Florida, as well as those In Texas & Louisiana that got clobbered by Harvey. Fax

As I recall, traffic in & out of Ricard was always a nightmare when it used to host the French GP back in the seventies & eighties. They used to joke that families would visibly grow older waiting in the traffic queues. Great to see F1 back at Ricard, but I would have thought the traffic infrastructure around the circuit would be updated along with circuit facilities. Fax

Hi Kristof, I wondered if Daytona USA was still there. I haven't been to DIS since the '08 Daytona 500, and even back then Bill France's baby was definitely showing its age. They did a massive, multi-million dollar facelift over the past couple of years, and I was curious what what went, and what was added. Fax

Hi Werner, Good call on Turn 10, you won't be disappointed. The campers out there are gregarious, fun company. By the end of your first day you'll be familiar with all of the legendary campsites, and their occupants along the run down to T-10, including Chuck, the Stumble Inn's rooster. Matt is a expert at steering newbies from on abroad in the right direction, so you won't go wrong in his hands. As for Daytona? It's been a few year's since I've been there, but there's a museum, and entertainment complex called Daytona USA adjacent to the Speedway that you may find interesting. Matt, if IRCC the fine establishment in Daytona you refer to is called Lollipops. One year while taking a break from a evening monsoon that hit Rolex 24, we ended up there. Matt & I had one of the lovely dancers there convinced I was a Swede that spoke no English, with some amusing results. Fax

Wasn't me that said he met Niki at Sebring, got the wrong CA member there. Trying to remember that guys name? He was a old timer, he knew some of the NASCAR originals like Marshall Teague. He hasn't posted in a while, oh well. Its a free country, go ahead and stay away from Sebring. Fax

And I thought I come off as grouchy old guy sometimes? Rolling billboards? Been that way since the late sixties. Regarding BoP, IMSA has used a equivalency formula for decades, nothing new there. I like to look at the past with rose-tinted specs as much as anyone, but I'm sure as hell not going to let it ruin my enjoyment of the contemporary incarnation of all sports, including racing. We're off to Mid-O, in a couple weeks for the Indycar weekend, if I was bitter guy who's refused to go since the CART- IRL a split, I'd be missing a damn good time. I know a sorry ass like that, he's also one of those guys who refuses to go to a MLB game since the 1994 strike ended season. Life's too short to sit around being bitter, get to a race, have a beer and soak up the atmosphere, it's good for you. Fax

Agreed Kristof, we'll need to catch up over a few cold ones. You did look pretty wiped out when you made it back to the campsite a couple years ago, I can imagine hauling camera gear around that place all weekend is exhausting. I get worn out just lugging beer Fax
