Anyone out there camp at Mulsanne?

The Murvi crew fancy a change, and it looks like the campsite is close to the village. Are there any bars nearby? Are the facilities any good?

The campsite guide is a bit out of date, so some more recent experience would be appreciated.

The youngster and I have enjoyed several motor sport events this year, Silverstone 6 hours, F1, MotoGP, and now he wants the big one, so how old were your lads when you first bloodied them at Le Sarthe?

I worked with Janice during her Radio Le Mans years, she was great fun and utterly professional, a rare combination.

What a great shame

The Murvi Crew are heading to Spa next year, and we are certain that you good people will be able to answer the following questions ........

Do we need a camping pass per vehicle?

Are the pitches marked out, or is it a case of grab the space you need?

Are the sites open until the Monday?

Thanks in advance.
53  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Campsites HELP! on: July 03, 2012, 09:34:51 am
OK one and all!

Before the memories fade into the distance of time, we need current reviews and thoughts of your camping experiences this year to update the campsite section of the Guide.

Please post your info/thoughts here and I will sort it all out over the coming months. We particularly need reviews of the newer sites that have sprung up around BSJ. I also noticed that there were more private compounds this year, reviews of these and what they offer for the extra cost would be very useful.

If you have piccies to accompany your comments mention it in your post and I will PM you with details of where to send them.

Thanks in advance.

Let's see how you react if it happens to you Fran.

I am sorry to report that The Murvi Crew were victims of a nocturnal raid on Sunday morning whilst camped on Bleu Nord.

This was the first such trouble we have experienced personally in 20 years of attendance, and I have to say PIS##D us off. The pratts struck around 05.00 Sunday morning when we were sleeping having just returned from our night time activities around the circuit. Items lost were a jacket, fire extinguisher, and a bag of tent pegs! What the F##K is that all about? We think they may have spotted our TV, and come back to half hinch that. They left a large camping lantern which we are happy to return, so if the rightful owner is on this forum and can give us a description they can have it back.

The team are philosophical about this event, and will take further measures to protect our stuff next year.

Just a reminder to you all to be vigilant.

Brad, please stop behaving like the last 4 letters of your tag!

Myself and another member of The Murvi Crew used to work on RLM during the 90's, and we have discussed the decline of this once great service at length. In short we have decided that it is now an American language sevice, targeted at internet listeners in the States, not an English language station for those wanting to know what is happening at the track.

The hourly updates are so confused, as to be no use, in fact we took to listening to the English language update on the French station, a situation RLM was set up to prevent.

Too much air time was given to sponsors thoughts and whims, gone are the Mad Friday campsite tours, no music you would care to listen to, no news bulletins from home, and precious little information about activity on the track because it is assumed that it is being listened to along with the TV feed.

Graham Tyler's absense was very noticable, let's hope he is back next year and offers some respite from the corperate musings that replaced him.

Trussers as always did a sterling job, he simply doesn't have the people around him to allow his knowledge and insight to come out.

Don't misunderstand me, I appreciate that money must be made, sponsors sought and satisfied, and professional staff paid. Unfortunately they have lost sight of the reason they are there in the first place, to keep us at the circuit informed.

End of rant!

Hi Werner,

You are an absolute STAR for pulling all this together in the timescale you allow yourself.

Have a very large drink!

59  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Advice from the ACO on: June 02, 2012, 10:15:45 am
Brian from 1st tickets has posted the following on Beermountain, probably as useful to the users of this forum as well.........

We met with our contact at the ACO earlier today, who informed us that they have found an unplanned "feature" of the parking and camping passes.

The passes are printed on new style/type of thermal paper for 2012. The "feature" is that details of the pass, including bar code are likely to disappear if the pass is exposed to more than 30 mins of sunlight!!

They have asked us to let customers and BMers know of this problem and request that you only put the pass in your windscreen as you arrive at your campsite or parking area. Once parked, they recommend that you turn the pass round in its pouch (or put it somewhere safe) to avoid it going completely black and unusable.

This is a genuine request and will hopefully reduce issues during the week of race. If we are told anything more we will certaninly let you know.

60  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Late ferry changes beware. on: June 01, 2012, 10:29:50 pm
Just posted this info on Beermountain, so I thought I would share it with the good folk here.

Having just changed my car, I needed to amend my ferry booking with Brittany, no problem, just get on the website and click on the manage my booking tab, OH NO!

The website tried to charge me an extra £180 for taking a similar sized vehicle. I phoned Brittany Ferries, and the lovely Louise explained that changes made on the website will reset the entire booking to reflect current prices, not the price when originally booked, hence the huge hike in cost. The amenment was made over the phone, and no costs applied.

Don't rely on the web, make that call!
