Hi All
A mate has just come back from this year's race, bearing a DVD of the 2008 race which he got with the official programme. If anyone out there has one they don't want, and is willing to sell it, I am keen. I was there in 08,and as we get prescisely sod all coverage of Le Mans in this part of the world, I am really keen to get a copy of the race.
Will of course pay postage costs as well.

6 Can-Am cars came out here for the Southern Festival of Speed historic race series in February. It was the first time there had been a race for Can Am cars in these parts, and I was lucky enough to be in the pits with Eoin Young and Wally Wilmott (two of McLaren's founders).
An amazing spectacle!

Really sorry I didn't get to meet up with you and the guys at LM. Glad to hear you had a great time. How did the foot hold up?
Andy - They've had a proper arse kicking off mother nature. Especially in the North Island. Some impressive pics on NZ newspaper websites. Stay safe down in Christchurch Tony. Met Service says you'll cop the rain and the wind right about now.

Thanks. The foot coped, but by the time we got back to NZ it was (and still is) pretty buggered! The weather is pretty crap at the moment, and we are due for the worst of it later this afternoon down here. |

Hi all
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help I got from the CA team leading up to our trip. My second time at the race was as good as the first, and I will be back! I know the guys I had with me were blown away by the scale of the event,a nd I think they are planning a return trip as well.

Hey Kiwi - long time no see! I have been wondering how you got on with your broken foot at LM in June? Did you make it after all?

Yes - we made it - thanks to the CA team for camping and grandstand passes. Had an amazing time of it. Foot was a hassle but I managed. Don't think I will make it back next year, but aiming for 2010. |

By gad, sir - you're a genius! Chris Amon, one of the unluckiest men in top level motorsport, in terms of the manure that surrounded him time after time. That said, I believe him to be hale and hearty in his 60s, which many contemporaries never reached for the usual tragic reason. I assume you'd read the Eoin Young (also a Kiwi, I think?) biography?
This was, for the benefit of anyone still awake, 1967, and Chris was sharing a Ferrari 330P4 with Nino Vaccarella. The retirement was before 11 p.m. I found the story in the new book "Ferrari au Mans 1961-67" by Francois Hurel, which follows on from the same author's series on Ford, Porsche & Matra (at least). Natch it's in French, but the pics are superb, and technical details are international in their nature. The interjections with little tales like this one make it a very good read if you have even basic French, like wot I have got. I bought it during the 24 hrs, and I think the (English-speaking) seller said they were going really fast. But then a Ferrari book would!
Eoin is indeed a Kiwi. I have a glass of lunch with him at least once a week. Chris. Amon is still hale and hearty, has retired from farming and is living a relaxing life on the northern shores of Lake Taupo, enjoying his boat "Can-am" |

Can only be some feral Australian. If the police look hard there will be a couple of Fosters or XXXX cans in the grass as well, and maybe even his velrco gloves.
