61  Club Arnage / General Discussion / French Presidential Candidate Francois Fillon on: November 21, 2016, 12:01:20 am
Lives near Le Mans, races in The Legends and even drove the 908 HDI FAP.

He may not be to everyone's taste but he's better than Le Pen and it's hard to imagine Trump posting a quicker qualifying lap...

62  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Audi to leave sportscar racing? on: November 07, 2016, 06:44:26 pm
Now its seems that VW are pulling out of rallying after winning things for 4 years.  I'd forgotten this - the groups motorsport budget has been severely dented.

Apparently, there's  world rally championship! Who knew? Crikey they kept that quiet didn't they...
63  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Goodwood revival on: September 12, 2016, 09:51:53 pm
Hi Chris
I am working at Goodwood. A check shirt and cord pants is all the rage here. The flat cap is a defo.
I may see about.
Mike
Bugger. Missed this. I was there yesterday. Fortunately managed to take refuge in the March Enclosure. Has his Lordship  seen sense after the FoS Mike? Wink

So basically a ten buck widget has wrought all this gnashing and wailing of teeth. Wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last, but it's a particularly cruel example of the genre.
65  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Modern Commer Replacement on: June 13, 2016, 10:29:16 pm
Having pondered for some time over a suitable Modern Commer Replacement, I have decided to commence a new relationship. I am formally replacing the beautiful light commercial with something equally refined and well, downright proper. So I can today reveal I have decided to welcome a Rover to the Zarse family.

Please meet 552 EWW, a Rover 110 from 1963, complete with Weslake cylinder head sat atop a short stroke 2.6 litre straight six, it is a vehicle cut from the same cloth as the Commer. In short, it's a bit of class.

I'm off to the tobacconists first thing for a new pipe and a tin of St Bruno and once I've modified the wireless so it's got Blueteeth I'll be able to waft along in gentlemanly fashion listening to the melodies of its 6 pot engine and Weslake cylinder head overlaid with the soothing strains of The Cult...

She's not coming to LM this year, I think a period of courtship would be considered decourous and in any event I don't collect her until after we return. But next year... oh I have some plans next year  Evil

Does anyone know where the fluck he's gone? Will he be leaving the Pool this week with the others?
67  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Question: Bringing drinks to the track? on: June 08, 2016, 12:03:22 pm
I think the best advice is no firm advice. As per above, they are a law unto themselves. So expect the unexpected.

We had a similar issue at the Nurburgring a few years back. We tried smuggling in about fifty cans hidden under some hats in a big cool box, and in a scene reminiscent of Escape from Colditz, we nearly got away with it. They initially believed we were taking in a massive box of hats, but the cans rattled at the last minute and we were busted by the laughing security guards. So we ended up lobbing dozens of cans over the wall and across the ditch. The moral of the story is to use your initiative and remember; the drinker will always get through! Smiley
68  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: What is on your playlist? on: June 02, 2016, 10:03:08 am
Bay area Thrash Metal with ZZ Top, AC/DC, Motorhead and a healthy dollop of hardcore punk from the likes of Discharge and GBH.

Perfect except for the omission of The Boyz. Can you run us off a cassette?
69  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Count Down!!! on: June 01, 2016, 05:30:58 pm
17 days to the race; not really a relevant time point for some of us Wink

I think the Liverpool Boys are leaving next week...

There were more Richard the Thirds than a Leicester carpark  Grin

Nice to note this place retains its penchant for genius metaphor.
71  Club Arnage / Help / Re: Anyone know about selling shares in a hostile take over? on: May 27, 2016, 04:58:52 pm
I told him it was too good to be true. It sounds too much like a scam I told him.  after that he didn't phone again.

Not for nothing is this known as "The Boiler Room". They will try to ramp up the pressure on you to sell. Eventually you will TX the shares to the "buyer" but the intermediary will sell the shares and piss off with your money. A very simple tactic.
72  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: France fuel shortages due to industrial action on: May 27, 2016, 04:52:37 pm
Today's strike article on the Beeb says, amongst other things",

"However, on 14 June, when French senators begin discussing the reform package, the unions plan to stage a "powerful national demonstration" in Paris."

That'll be Tuesday 14th which is travel day for many people. I've no idea whether there will be any collateral damage but I'd guess ports/ferry staff and maybe immigration people may take some form of action. Hope not though...

Agreed. It is not too difficult to outwit silly French fuel shortages. It is the ferries/ports which must be of greatest concern. Hopefully matters will be resolved in time. I am amazed that in my 27 previous trips to LM I have never once been affected by industrial action.

As for BMWs, we all know they can do Berlin to Poland in one tank  Grin
To be fair it's only sixty miles to the border...
74  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: LE MANS 24 OFFICIAL MOVIE on: May 24, 2016, 02:46:58 pm
Can I propose you at least visit the Brethren party on Blue Nord on the Friday night. This is a glittering must-attend A-list event, a night of revellry and partying in true Le mans style. You will be served chilled Sauvignon by naked transexual dwarfs sprayed gold, circulating and carrying bowls of finest caviar and plates of lamb's tongue blinis on their heads. There will be many beautiful women. And when the dancing mood takes you our friendly resident DJs will serenade you with musical offerings the like of which you'll never have previously experienced. Soon enough have the "So What?" earworm running round your head until you reach a trance-like state.
75  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Preparations for Le Mans on: May 24, 2016, 02:35:11 pm
Hi, I'm the director of the official film of the 24 hours of Le Mans. I'm looking for a small group of fans that we would follow during the parade on Friday and during the race. The idea is to film the same people before the start of the race, the evening at the campsite at night and on Sunday at the arrival. The official film is the one that is annually released on DVD. If you are interested you can contact me by email and send me a short presentation of you and your group of fans.
Thank you

Christophe

Hi B-side, there's only one group to follow, The Brethren!  Evil

OMG That's gonna be messy - can you imaging telling PigPen he's gonna be on the telly?

He was on Sky with Leighla a couple of years back. Filmed in the Driver's Club with Ben Collins (The Stig). It went to their heads a bit IIRC, and they started demanding dressing rooms, agents etc.
