181  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Damn Tourist in Pompey on: May 26, 2010, 08:25:16 pm
Me and she are sailing from Pompey, 23:45 (or something similar) on the Wednesday, 9th, arriving in town early afternoon and incorporating a quick visit to the outlaws then going on to eat before sailing. any takers for a meet / meal, or any recommendations for same?

Solar Monkey

It'll recharge anything with an up to 5v requirement and comes complete with a pretty comprehensive set of tips/adaptors, with others available if required, and a 'MonkeyNut' rechargeable dongle thingy which will store enough charge for temporary instant use of your device if you can't wait to recharge it via the Solar Monkey. Travel case and strap to attach the (small) solar panel to your tent/rucksack also included. As a final bonus, it'll recharge using only indoor electric lighting as a light source, albeit it needs to be fairly bright.

Prices vary wildly, I got mine, brand new - UK, via fleaBay for £17.50 delivered which was a bit of a bargain, I have seen them for up to £75!!! fleaBay, Amazon or the Solar Monkey website are probably your best bet.

As you may gather, I'm very impressed with mine, can't recommend it highly enough.

We're going with this lot, mentioned above, http://www.lemansrace.com/dpage.html?pageid=92. Their organisation seems spot on, their staff helpful and knowledgeable and the packages, whilst somewhat expensive, have a lot going for them. We chose to take this route for 'medical' reasons too, following injuries, as it takes some/most/all of the worry out knowing there is a semi-peaceful haven and support, if required, to hand. We are at the Chateau d'Eporce, may see you there!

The Great British Welcome is on my list of must do's, if not 2010 then 2011, it depends on the timings of the aforementioned offerings really. I understand that the package tour of the circuit and pits is officially sanctioned so hopefully will give me a bit more than the usual walkabout and nosey. The things we'll do for an Audi baseball cap!  Roll Eyes

Well, got my substantial deposit down for next years race yesterday, staying (in a tent) in the grounds of a different chateau to the one we were expecting to stay at but hey, when you opt for the 'executive' package the bells and whistles are all nice shiney ones! One of the bells and whistles I'm most looking forward to is a Friday morning tour of the circuit and pit lane, should be interesting. Oh, and the pre race banquet, the wine tasting, the post race hog-roast, the real showers and toilets, I'll be thinking of you guys.

Going across on the 9th, 22:45 Pompey to Caen, back on the 14th, 23:00 Roscoff to Plymouth. Anybody else aboard?

Just waiting for the 2010 CA LM Guide now, and when can I get some t-shirts? Hope to cut a dash amongst the 'classic' set at the chateau, might just get the wifes a size or two smaller than is ideal!  Cool

And the icing on yesterdays cake? Four lovely new Potenzas on my baby.  Grin

Many thanks for the replies and the welcomes, appreciated.

Beer drinking? I like it and consider myself at 'keen amateur' status at least, conditions permitting.

As for the camping, well, we have done it, Beausejour last time, and whilst it certainly has its attractions the Evo package takes some of the rough edges off and makes a week in a damp French field far more acceptable to the missus, who invariably accompanies me on such jaunts. I was / am worried about circuit access during the race but a bit of walking is all part of the fun I think, hopefully the improved access to other elements of race week will more than make up for a bit of access awkwardness at the circuit. A good chance to catch 40 winks on the shuttle bus too, and, hopefully, a chance to collar some of the Evo guys at the chateau and hear some of their stories.

And the CA LM Guide? Legendary, a part of the whole event as far as I am concerned.

Hi all, another long time watcher just joined. Been to Le Mans only twice so far, missed this year due to circumstances way beyond my control but have 'reserved' places for me and her for next year already. Going down with the Evo magazine deal, looks good, anybody been down on one of these before?

Hope to become an active member of the CA crew.

Thanks for having me.
