Yes the last hour of the battle was awsome and a small piece of Aston Martin racing will forever be in our pub.

But what is it?

Great colour though.

Brad,

Maybe this bloke just got it wrong.  (I am told (by my wife) that this happens to me. Sometimes.  I think I can even remember the red mist falling over my eyes.)

On the other side, midnight?Huh  Did he go to Le Mans and forget to bring earplugs?  Perhaps he has sensitive hearing, or didn't like your choice of music - was it the usual Baroque or Byzantine choral again?  Did he try to report you to the campsite manager, that always works for me at Le Mans.

I do know people that would/could/do behave like that, in fact I think I've worked with them.....

I think that he would want to apologies but just didn't want to own up publicly.

After a race like that and such glorious weather, how could I not go back.

Whether Tristan is invited back after his "no show' is another matter.

Nick,

You are right of course, the GTE cars were driving like that all the time.

I suspect that you are also right about the Vette tyres going off, but it also looked like a heroic lunge by the Aton at Arnage.  I would like to see it again but from memory I didn't think it was going to stick, and it didn't.

But did the clash cause the Vette's damage?  possibly - but only the telemetry will provide the truth.

That it was so close after 24 hours says so much about both these teams.  Not for the first time the GTE cars provided the best racing.  I guess it's just that the Aston/Vette rivalry has a track record like few others.

I confess, I have a soft spot for the Vette.

So,

Anyone else going?

If you have any questions you want me to ask of any Le Mans teams who are there (apart from what the f***k happened Toyota?), I will try to ask - let me know.

I think Toyota missed last year, so they might pass again based on this weekend.

I'm looking for builds and updates.

This year I struggled to find many of the water outlets that others have listed.

Bottled water really pi••see me off.  For one the cost and second the environmental impact.

My casual investigation was not exhaustive  but this is what I found:

Main straight outside outlets - couldn't see any.
Toilet blocks in the village: no,
Behind the pits (inside track): no,
Toilet block near the concert area/Dunlop bridge: no - although there is a standpipe at the medical post, but inside the fenced off area.
Dunlop Bridge outside water fountain: yes
Toilet block inside near Dunlop Bridge: yes

so, I only found one useful water tap.

It was a very eventful weekend.  Another tragic year for Toyota.  I was sitting in Dunlop and watched the first car go out, then saw the accident with the second and of course that was out inside within 30 mins.  If I were them I would have packed it in by now.

And then the Corvette Aston rivalry!  Right in the last few minutes!!!  The ACO really nailed the BoP this year, and no sandbagging Fords either!!  I heard that for much of the race there was 4 or 5 manufacturers on the lead lap.

In my book, it was the Vette that should have won.  I suspect that the Aston took it out in the accident sat Arnage.  I hope we find out the truth.

I only decided to attend last weekend, but I'm glad I did and as I write this, I'm sitting sun soaked and happy on the beach at Dieppe watching a wonderful sunset, and reflecting on another epic weekend.

It looks like this year will be a hot one - thanks for the info.
25  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: The Guide - where to next on: November 15, 2016, 11:50:32 am
So.....

It looks like there are people who feel that there should be a guide.

Am I reading too much into this that the guide should be:

for the first time visitor,
by fans for fans,
not need to duplicate the up-to-date information that is available elsewhere,
be available to print or to hold electronically (PDF)

Any builds/disagreements/updates?

26  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Audi to leave sportscar racing? on: November 15, 2016, 10:25:45 am

I will really miss Audi.

I actually like the sound of a broken household appliance storming past me at astonishing pace.

Electric just doesn't seem nearly as attractive/

1 - Autonomous electric cars......?
2 - cars that take their power from a cable embedded into the circuit itself
3 - Recycled beer (processing plant attached to the toilets)
3 - seats with VR headsets built in.
4 - fines for not taking mass transit transportation & for using fossil fueled cars.
5 - paying in Euros after the UK referendum that demand that the UK is allowed back into the EU and the single currency.
6 - mass expansion of hospitality so that you have to take some to get in.

or the same as it is now....  Evil

Nick,

I think that there is strong agreement here.

Because you are actually there, not an hour away, you may also find that the camping experience provides you with much greater freedom to enjoy the race - that is after all why we go, well, that and the beer, and the dancing, and the girls (just joking).

Going "organised" to Le Mans to my mind is like going to a restaurant, but only having a starter, or like getting someone else to eat the meal.

Le Mans isn't that hard, just start planning early.

In time line, get your ferry and camping tickets sorted out - just ask if you want any advice.

For me, the days of practice and qualifying are just magic, especially late into the evening - you can go to any grandstand and try them out, the atmosphere is electric with anticipation, but it's slightly more relaxed because it isn't the race itself.

Werner and I were discussing the guide at Spa this year, and one thought was to make it more than a Le Mans guide. We have the readership with hopefully the local knowledge. Why not reduce the LM availability, and open up - perhaps on a basic level to the rest od the WEC? Certainly more UK based members want to head to the Nurburgring.

Jason,

I am very interested in this idea.  I think that we can provide the insight on Silverstone, Spa and Nurburgring.  Do you think that we can cover the others including Mexico, Austin, Fuji, Shanghai and Bahrain?
