31  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Cancellations on Portsmouth to Le Havre ferry route? on: June 09, 2016, 08:20:01 pm
Not as yet, I think Lynx phoned Brittany last week who said the Le Havre crossings would be cancelled, but the other routes would run with one or two hour delays. This certainly fits the pattern of the last few strikes, although I would guess that Cherbourg might be a bit dodgy as well.
I'm on the St Malo boat leaving Monday evening so will report back.

I had a quick look on the Brittany site today and they are still currently pretty much as you have noted. Pompey - Le Havre sailings cancelled for today, Monday and Tuesday. Pompey - Caen all departures today delayed 1-2 hours, tomorrow afternoons actually brought forward 15mins. All other services unaffected so far. I'm going early am on the 15th I'll certainly be keeping an eye on it as the 14th threatens more widespread industrial action.

If they were amenable maybe the RLM Midweek Motorsport Listener's Collective on FB & Twitter?

Team Pretzel (me and the other half) in the Cayman

Depart Pompey - Caen Wed 15th at 08:30
Staying: Hotel de France @ Chartre sur Loire (fantastic historical connections with Le Mans) and not too far to commute to La Sarthe.
Return Cherbourg - to Pompey Mon 19th at 17:00

Hoping to meet up with Neil, Tom etc. on Houx sometime during the period to share a beer or 2.

Getting close now and from what I've see so far, shaping up to be very interesting :-)

Thanks for the pointer Paul. Have also found an interesting posting on Pistonheads that we're following up.

EDIT - Request now closed, all requirements sorted for our friends!
35  Club Arnage / 2016 / Wanted - Parking Blanc and grandstand tickets ** Subject now closed ** on: April 13, 2016, 09:04:49 pm
Hi fellow CA'ers,

I realise that this is bit if a LOOOONG shot! A pal of mine and his partner usually travel over to LM but reluctantly decided not to attend this year due to conflicting calendar commitments. Unexpectedly they are now free to go and are now hunting around for tickets. Accommodation is already sorted but we are looking for Parking Blanc and a couple of reasonable covered grandstand tickets (they are ACO members and usually use the stands 17 or 18 but I realise this would be practically impossible, given the difficulty I had obtaining them on the day of sales opening). Anyhow, if there is anyone out there that may be unfortunate to have anything like this that they cannot use I would be grateful if you could let me know.

Any pointers as to other potential sources would also be welcomed. I have already advised them to contact alternatives such as the tourist office etc.

Best rgds,

Pete B.

Cheetah transporter (but only with the help of Google!) Another interesting vehicle and history Neil. Am going to have to go back through some of my old books to try and find a challenge whose image is not out there on the interweb somewhere :-)

Must be a Mustang then. Well that's something I didn't know until I looked into it.... The brief history of Ferguson's involvement in motor sport also quite interesting! Will have to look out for a return question :-)

Agree with Steve - the cost of postage.

Another note - although the stipulation was to print on A4 etc. etc. we just folded ours in such a way that the barcode was visible and put them into plastic pockets on lanyards. No problem with any of the scanning guys, so no idea why the detailed printing instructions were given.

40  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: 'Ladies Pavilion' on: June 16, 2015, 07:40:53 pm
I asked my other half what she thought about the Ladies Pavilion after she had visited it on my behalf to see what it was all about and her comment was the same as others have already noted: 'very patronising and sexist'. I'd like to know what market research was carried out before the ACO came up with that one... I'd also like to know what some of the driver's partners/wives lined up to give 'talks' thought too.

We're off too very shortly to amble across from South Wales to Pompey for our traditional Brittany 20:30 sailing.

Bon journee to everyone going, and enjoy!

To those having to remain, hope the TV coverage is good and you are able to recreate some of the atmosphere back here.

Class!

Some of us still here for a little longer Mike...... You should have no problem getting an Enciente Generale at any of the entrances. Not so sure on parking passes though if you will be needing one. If you do, the online ticketing site could be a source, and, if available you should be able to print your own, same goes for the general entries. Tickets still available online at www.lemans.org.

As others have mentioned the Navettes/Buses out to Mulsanne/Arnage are a bit of a nightmare these days, not just queuing to get on but the hellish nature of the traffic during race time. Better than driving yourself though :-)

44  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Ticket Reservations Le Mans & Le Mans Classic 2016 on: June 07, 2015, 02:24:11 pm
You used to be able to fill in a photocopied form at the ACO office (behind the grandstands) and leave it with them as a reservation for the following year, but that was a while ago before the advent of the online ticketing shop. Not so any more.
45  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: 24H in a wheelchair! Advice on local transport... on: June 04, 2015, 08:02:53 pm
Hi easyrider64, and welcome to the CA forum. Cannot comment at all on the wheelchair access to trams etc. but can comment on the traffic in and out of the circuit approaching from the Laval direction. Until the last couple of years we used to stay that way (Evron-Mezangers) and commuted in to the circuit daily, using the D357 or the A81/A11, joining the D338 ring road near the university. Over 19 years we have rarely found the traffic to be that bad at all. There will of course be some queuing for whichever parking area you are destined for, and even then, as others have said only for Thursday night qualifying (when the locals come out in force) and on the Saturday itself when of course an early start is advisable. I reckon we have never queued for a car park for longer than 20 minutes going in on the Saturday am, arriving at the circuit around 09:30am.  Getting out a different matter, but wait an hour and a half or so post race, and most of it melts away. The LM authorities seem to make a much better job of managing it than some other major circuits I can think of.

Whatever you do have a great time, it won't be your last :-)

Hi Pete

Thanks for your reply.  Smiley

So, if I read this correctly, you're suggesting that it might be possible (better!) to drive to the circuit and get a blue badge space in one of the car parks there? I'm very familiar with the traffic in and out of Silvo at major events like F1, MotoGP etc... generally I leave home at about 5am to get there for opening time, and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before the track action starts!

Cheers!

Colin

Hi Colin, it is certainly possible. Would you be driving a 'modern' or a classic? If you leave at the sort of early hour you have mentioned on the way in then I doubt there would be much in the way at all, and no opening time to concern yourself with if REALLY early at the track. What I am not too sure about is the availability of 'Blue Badge' spaces in the various car parks. Not requiring this I have never really looked to see if those facilities were available in those we usually use. Maybe a quick call to the ACO to ask them? For info I would expect a drive in from Laval to take around 75 - 90 minutes max. at reasonably low velocity :-)

Edited to add - it may well be worth contacting the Le Mans Tourist Office also on 0033 243 28 17 22 for advice about 'Blue badge' parking etc. I am reliably informed they have excellent English speaking staff and are very helpful.

Best rgds,

Pete B.
