I bought the smaller version of that tent this year and it is excellent.

Due to being in my twilight years I decided I was time to buy a tent that I could stand up to get dressed in rather  than the Quequa tents where you have to lie down and wrestle to get dressed. Grin

I can relate to point 4, as that is what happened to me, and if it were not for our wonderful paramedics and air ambulance I would more than likely have not survived as my car was stopped dead from a 120mph spin when it hit the central reservation on the A3.

I took my eldest for the first time when he was 13 and he has now visited Le Sarthe on 7 occasions and is already in the queue for 2014, as well as his little brother who started coming 2 years ago and who also loves the whole thing!
It's great now that they are both adults and they can do their own thing without me actually having or trying to be the responsible parent Grin

Over the past 3 years or so we have made an effort on the Monday on the way back to Caen to visit "The Beaches".
So far have done the Mulberry Docks,  the observation tower in Ouisteram and this year we visited Point Du Hoc.
Being born not long after the event, all the visits so far have made me realise the commitment that our previous generations made to make the world a safer place to be and not to be ruled by Fascists and Despots.

The one thing about Point Du Hoc is that it has been left as was and when you walk around you get the picture that it certainly was not the place to be on the day of the invasion. The craters are everywhere and there was certainly no where to hide..

It is deffo one of the places to visit.

Next year we plan to do Omaha Beach and museum as we did not have time this year to stop off .

I would tend to agree with Smokies comment on internal injuries, but we will know when the details if the post mortem are released.

My crash 3 years ago was similar to Allans in as much as I too came to an abrupt halt when my car was stopped by the armco from a 120mph spin.

I was able to communicate with the medical/rescue services and was totally unaware of how serious my internal injuries were at the time, but thanks to all involved on the day i'm lucky enough still to be here.

For me my first visit was in 1998 as a sort of recce for coming out in 1999 for Pretzels 40th birthday, due to the fact the my brother in law invited me to go along with him.

Well that first visit had me totally hooked and to this day I still cannot work out why I keep coming back. Yes the racing is incredible and over the past 16 years I have met some fantastic people who are all should I say a little crazy because like me, they also keep returning to the "field in France".

It does go beyond the racing. The camaraderie of everyone on this site and beyond is incredible.

I have never really said a big thank you for all your support to when I had my near fatal car accident on the 4th June 3 years ago.

Two weeks after the event,"Neil"  sent the get well card and DFH t-shirt in the post to me, which after reading all the messages had me crying like a baby because it was such a moving moment for me, but not only that he managed in between preparing for LM to come down from Cheshire to Kings College Hospital in London to check on me whilst I was in ICU and then reported back on here(which I still have all the get well messages posted on here in a special folder).

So I still have no idea why I keep going back, but health allowing I will keep on returning as long as I can. Huh

MB didn't fare well either. Our immediate neighbors had all 4 petrol scooters nicked, but fortunately two of their team caught 2 of the crims in the village with the scooters and they said the local constabulary weren't interested, and a group of geordies about 100 yards from us had 2 moto-x bikes stolen.

whoever it was had chain cutters, as the motocross bikes were chained up.The question is how did these scumbags get in /out with the loot as to enter MB you need a GA,whereas BN is open.

LB, The smiles were not meant in the way you are thinking. When Ian visited us on Wednesday he told us he had carried out Debs wishes of spreading her ashes down the Mulsanne and I just had to have a little chuckle as to what Ian said.

I ,like you am really saddened by what happened on Saturday like the rest of us who enjoy endurance racing, and sadly accidents do happen.

And, if you choose to believe it, Deb saw the whole thing from closer to the track than any of us!
