Went today with my son, 9 years old. What a superb day. 95 miles each way, all cross country with no motorway miles. An 0530 start meant that the roads were clear and perfect for making good progress.
What a wonderful collection of vehicles. The Group C's on show were good to see, the modern stuff too.
Lots of lovely exotica for a 9 year old to take pictures of too.
Shame about the Moto X rider who hit the ground hard; hope he's ok?
The weather was perfect today, but the forecast for tomorrow is very warm, so prepare some cold drinks and suncream. It only felt truly busy, right at the mid point of the day, but still not like a Saturday or Sunday. if you can get to the top of the Ford stand, i would imagine you get a good and free view of the hill.
Have fun to all those who are going.

Deb would not approve of me being thumb-up-bum, brain in neutral! Sorry I didn't get around more over the weekend, but I did enjoy everything - except the outcome of the early crash, of course.
And, if you choose to believe it, Deb saw the whole thing from closer to the track than any of us!
Hoping that I understand you correctly, that sounds wonderful.

I've seen photos that show that Allan might have been going a bit wide to avoid a spinning Ferrari (see the slow moving car getting back up to speed that the Corvette overtakes). As for the lack of tyres/padding in front of the barriers, we had only been talking about this on the Friday evening. Incredibly sad That would be my thoughts too. This is the most revelaing footage that I have seen so far http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIVpzKqCLBEIt clearly shows 3 cars spinning on the same patch of paint. The first is the 43 car, which recovers then rejoins. Then the Ferrari, followed by the Aston. Other cars do appear to run over the paint, but I think these 3 were wider than the others and perhaps ended up with both wheels on the paint.

You too Ian! Have the best time that you can, amongst friends.
I'm not there this year, but have been listening to RLM and raised a glass to Deb.

When I phoned they only read out 14 juror numbers Barry. The chances of being one of the 2 rejected are not very good
Update. Picked for the final 15 this morning from which the 12 jurors will be chosen tomorrow. Been told the trial will last up to 8, yes weeks. You do the math. Bob, I think we should all be proud of you. A fine, upstanding member of the community and an obvious moral compass! The Jury System is obviously in very safe hands. ;0)

There is a rich history of sportscar racing in the US, but it has always been very much a niche sport, rarely gets any mainstream media exposure. It's occured to me that when the sport has been at its healthiest over here, is when there's been little manufacturer involvment. The best example of a big make coming in and killing a series was Can-Am. Even during its glory days, despite the fact that the works McLaren's usually scooped the hardware, a privateer could purchase a Mclaren or Lola, and take on the might of the Kiwi's, and occasionally knock them off. When Porsche came in with its cost-no-object 917 turbo, the cost of being competitve went through the roof, a cost most privateers couldn't afford, and the series died. I loved the early days of the ALMS, when you had huge grids of privateer Ferrari 333sp's, R&S's, etc. I've just never bought into the idea that one needs big manufacturer involvment for a series to have credibility. I'm sure I've seen the restoration thread of this HY van on Pistonheads. If it's the same one, the company that did the bodywork bodged a lot of the replacement flat panels and rust started showing through very quickly. Not sure it ever was resolved. And you're not so much "thinking outside the box" as thinking about being IN the box! ...and it's £7,500. That's a LOT of coffee to sell! Lux pat, that's my first thought too. Kev - is this a business proposition or just a different way of doing Le Mans? If you just want to buy the van, go down there and sell a few drinks, then go to enjoy yourself in the time honoured fashion, then great, go for it. It would be a tremendous novelty and a great way to meet people. Sell the van on your return. However, if you need to earn a living from it - a different story.
