Mine arrived yesterday morning.

So see all of you there next month.

I'll take a table for one, and not too near the band.

Will one be expected to tip, and can one bring one's own bottle of Jameson's/Bushmills?

Pilgrim
Are you kidding? You can bring whatever type of whiskey you bloody like mate!
Fran - please don't try to talk him out of it - it's important that out guests feel that they can relax in the ambient surroundings of our al freaso dining experience and if the want to bring their own booze, then that's completely fine by us!
I might have to start thinking about recruiting some waitresses though Pilgrim, I must admit that I hadn't thought of that!
At a real stretch we could have Rod dressed in a little black skirt with white pinnafore. How does that suit you?

We'll definitely need waitresses.

The Hawaiian Tropic girls are great trackside viewing, but I feel that guests should be able to enjoy the full French dining experience and a couple of pretty ladies dressed in the 'Allo 'Allo style would be an essential part of this.

Think of Angelina Jolie in a French maid's outfit and you're there.

More importantly, will there be some saucy 'Allo 'Allo style waitresses?
214  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Peugeot: 908 not ready for Le Mans on: May 08, 2007, 02:14:26 pm
I'm not surprised that the Peugeot isn't quite ready for Le Mans yet, assuming this isn't merely a put-up job designed to make people merely think that.

1000km races are one thing, but to run for the full 24 hours, given the much greater demands imposed on the machine, is a different matter.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how they do in pre qualifying and in the race itself, come June.

I'm definitely going to be there, come what may.

Looking forward to it.
217  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: BSJ Camping : On-line bookings on: May 07, 2007, 11:32:23 pm
I booked two General Admission tickets and a camping permit for BSJ from Just Tickets about ten days ago and there was no problem there either.

Haven't recieved them yet, but Just Tickets have always been reliable before so I don't doubt I will.

How much did they charge you for them?    The face value of the tickets will be €55 for the General Admission and €46 for the BSJ  but it looks to me like they are Charging £55 for the GA and £53 for the BSJ.  So the cost looks like it £163.    €156 worth of Tickets for £163   sounds like a bad deal to me.

t.

It's not a great deal as they charged me a total of £170 including Special Delivery. But, to be fair, I only decided to go in April and I was happy to get any camping permit at all at this late date.

Might well consider booking via the ACO for next year though.

I'd certainly hope that a driver like Gilles Villeneuve would be given the respect that his memory and achievements deserve.

RIP Gilles.
220  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Brittainy Ferries Pricing Madness. on: May 07, 2007, 12:39:21 pm
I think willing to pay is the only thing that comes in to play.  If you can't afford it then you not in a position to be willing to pay.

Yes it does make sense for you to do that.   It looks like it's about a £80 for you to go as foot passenger.

Now this is the real question.  What value do you put on being able to take the 10 minute Cab ride.    Previously I've always paid the extra to aviod the driving  involved in the Dover Calias crossing.  However, this year they have over stepped the mark.  £350 + a night in a Hotel say €85 is more than I'm willing to pay.    Going via the tunnel cost me £250 less in Channel crossing costs but £60 more in Petrol and 6 hours extra driving.

If your crossing was £150 more than the cost of using say Eurostar would you pay it?

I'd go with whatever was cheapest and most convenient.

It costs less for me to leave from Plymouth than go via Portsmouth or the Chunnel at the moment, so I go via Plymouth. If it cost a lot more then I'd find another route as I'm going with limited funds at the moment. I have enough to get me there and back and survive while I'm there.

Regarding convenience, as I live in Plymouth it means all I have to do is get a taxi to and from the ferry terminal rather than haul all my gear across to Portsmouth or Dover and then on to Le Mans from there. It'd take a pretty major increase in ferry prices for me to find the extra inconvenience worth the effort needed.

221  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Brittainy Ferries Pricing Madness. on: May 06, 2007, 08:50:35 pm
I think it depends a lot on what you can afford and are willing to pay and also on whether or not you have a vehicle.

For me personally, as I live in Plymouth and am travelling on foot this year, it makes sense to go from Plymouth rather than Portsmouth. The fare for a foot passenger is probably less than the train far to Portsmouth and back plus a ferry ticket.

There's also the advantage that, on the return trip, I'll be hot, tired, sweaty and aching and I'll still be able to step off the ferry and be home in ten minutes by cab, rather than facing a long train journey with all my kit to carry.

Although I do agree that Brittany Ferries are probably the most expensive ferry tickets to France, especially when compared to LD Lines or Transmanche.
222  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Brittany on: May 06, 2007, 04:23:03 pm

Yes thats the case.  Of course the LWB and Roof rack bump up the price.   When you think that what you are really buying is space.  A car is the same size if it's just got a driver or if it's full with four or five occupants.   The same applies to a cabin. The question is do they make a profit on the crossings that are not popular?   If they do then IMO they are not really playing fair to Jack the prices up on the popular crossings.

I don't know but I've always thought that they top up the load on the Ferry with the unaccompanied trailers you see on the dock side.   So even the less popular crossings are full as far as car and trucks and trailers go.

So

The thing is, they have a captive market. If folk are willing to pay higher prices for a limited number of ferry and tunnel places, which are the only way that most folk are going to get to Le Mans, then as places run out the price goes up accordingly.

It's basically supply and demand.

The ferry companies can't be unaware of the massive spike in business they get during race week, just a simple look at their statistics will have shown them that.

So, supply decreases in relation to increased demand, and as that happens the prices go up accordingly.

223  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Brittany on: May 05, 2007, 05:03:04 pm
Odd that Brittany Ferries are so expensive.

I'm booked with them as a foot passenger on the Plymouth to Roscoff route as I live in Plymouth (going on to Le Mans via train) and they still charged me £77 for a return ticket, even with a £10 website discount that still seems a bit much to me.

Of course, it is at the middle of the summer and in Le Mans race week which may account for their expensive prices. I have heard they tend to increase prices on the routes that dock nearest to Le Mans during race week, though.

Haven't recieved mine from Just Tickets yet, but confirmation has arrived.

Expecting them to arrive soon.

One for our beloved Termietermite, methinks.

I should be arriving on the Wednesday morning on foot and I'll need to go food shopping on the Wednesday or Thursday.

I'll be staying on the Beausejour campsite (tickets and permit have been despatched) and I was wondering what cashpoints are at either Carrefour or the Super U at Arnage.

Also, which of the two is a shorter walk from the BSJ site. Looking at the map, I'd assume it's the Super U.

Can anyone help me with this?
