736  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Brittany Ferries on: June 29, 2005, 01:25:15 pm
Unless management have got a deal they are usually pretty much the same as the operators as they get a bit huffy if we try and undercut them without some sort of agreement (of course, I didn't say that as that wouldn't be allowed now would it...)  The one good thing with aferry.to is that most of the operators prices and offers can be found in one place, only odd one out is Speedferries as they won't let us sell their crossings.  Sorry more plugs.
737  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Brittany Ferries on: June 29, 2005, 12:57:31 pm
My mate booked using his Owners Abroad discount card. In the queue on the way home was ten tenths motorsports, 2 vehicles pulling a legend car each in a covered in trailer. Talking to the bloke and he booked through Motor Sport travel and paid £308 return, a whopping £164 cheaper with a trailer.

Ferry prices are fluid and discount cards usually mean discount from standard list, ignoring the fact that there maybe a special offer on!  Friend of mine was a P&O shareholder and they were supposed to get cheaper prices, but usually found that cheaper prices could be found on the web, to be fair though P&O usually matched or beat them for him!  Time to book your ferry is usually January as thats when the offers are on.  People like MotorSportTravel also negotiate special deals, as do others.  I know all this cos .... Now the plug...  Company I work for runs www.aferry.to and there are details of current offers on display, also if you signup for the newsletter (can't call it spam as boss will shoot me!) then you can keep an eye on prices (especially at the start of 2006)....  Also has price comparison section too.  Plug over!

Well said,

Not everyone who owns a nice car got it cos they are rich or have it as a company car!  I worked hard (and borrowed) to get my Aston, and still work hard to keep it just as you have.  I'm sure that there are a lot of enthusiasts at LM who are in the same boat and get treated the same way, but one by one we learn and stop going to the trouble spots.....

Having said that the few (off peak) times we drove through Arnage we nothing but great comments and cheery waves!  So it wasn't all bad Grin
739  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:thanks vq dave on: June 27, 2005, 02:41:45 pm
So I wasn't the only one who got annoyed with RLM not suppling race info!  I thought the whole idea of RLM was to provide race info to the English speaking fans?  Hotel was well outside of range for portable radio, car one worked to within half a mile!  Otherwise got good reception all around the track.
But it took ages on the way back to the track on Sunday AM to find out what was going on! Too old to stay up all night, so hope they get back on track for next year Huh
740  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Monday 27th is No Complaints day on: June 27, 2005, 02:24:49 pm
No complaints from this corner either, best LM for years!

Didn't camp so can't comment on the saga's, but found out at breakfast on the Friday that a big chunk of the Rollcentre team were staying out hotel, and they turned out to be a great bunch of people.  Grin Gave us a great garage tour during the Friday pitlane walkabout, and of course we went out of the back door and had a quick look round the back of the other garages too!  Thanks to them, and I hope they go back next year, although the Dallaras don't comply with the new regs.  Nobody could work out if Martin Short actually led the race for a couple of hundred metres or not!  Still great effort!

Didn't see any chaos at Arnage, or anywhere else, but probably cos we avoided the place on Friday evening, good job too cos the wife would've been up for a fight had anyone chucked stuff at the Aston or soaked the interior Grin Grin

Roll on next year only 50 or 51 weeks to go......
741  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:LMES Silverstone 1000k 13th August on: June 23, 2005, 01:41:18 pm
There'll be a timetable on the www.brdc.co.uk website (in the events section normally) at some stage late july early august I expect, they have to get the GP out of the way first before the proper racing starts!

Anyone coming to the Britcar 24hr race?
742  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Off on: June 15, 2005, 03:51:18 pm

745  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Rouen Vs Paris which way to go on: June 14, 2005, 04:08:43 pm
You could always try amending your tunnel booking for a later return, they may want to charge you for it, unless you can get through to someone who's in a good mood and feels sorry for you!  Did you book via the website?

I usually book  my returns for a couple of hours later than I really want as the Calais-Dover ferries and trains are frequent enough and they usually stick you on the next one going if there is space.
746  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Rouen Vs Paris which way to go on: June 14, 2005, 03:45:04 pm
Depends on how many speeding tickets you want to get Grin Grin Grin

Map software reckons about 5 1/2 hours, but depends on how long you want to stop for lunch.  Is your return on Sunday?  If so you may need to leave before the end of the race.

We're using the tunnel too, Thursday 0700, but returning on Monday.

There may be some regulars that return on Sunday who can advise....

See http://www.the-twats.com/ for route and timings.

We're not leaving till early hours Thursday, so tomorrow is probably going to drag even more Huh

Still, Aston's fueled and ready to go......
748  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Help wanted for Very Nervous Flyer on: June 07, 2005, 05:33:42 pm
Just spotted this on another forum I belong to, you might not want to show it to your other half.....

RULES of the AIR:
1. Every take-off is option. Every landing is mandatory;
2. If you push the stick forward the houses get bigger, if you pull the stick back they get smaller, if you keep pulling it back they get bigger again;
3. Flying isn't dangerous - crashing is dangerous;
4. It's always better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here;
5. The ONLY time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire;
6. The propellor is just a big fan at the front of the plane to keep the pilot cool, when it stops you can actually see the pilot begin to sweat;
7. When in doubt, on onto your altitude, no one ever colided with the sky;
8. A good landing is when you can walk away, a great one is when you can use the plane again;
9. Learn from the mistakes of others, you won't live long enough to make them all yourself;
10. You know if you've forgotten to lower the undercart for landing if it takes full power to taxi to the apron;
11. The probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of arrival:
12. Never let the plane take you to where your brain didn't get to five minutes earlier;
13. Stay out of clouds, the silver lining might be another aeroplane coming the other way. Also mountains have been known to hide in clouds;
14. Try to keep the number of landings you've made equal to the number of take-offs you've made;
15. There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing - unfortunately no-one knows what they are;
16. You start with a full tank of luck and an empty tank of experience - the trick is to fill the later before the former runs dry;
17. Helicopters can't fly, they're just so ugly the earth repels them;
18. If all you can see is the earth going round and round, and all you can hear is commotion from the passengers, things are not going as well as they should be;
19. In the on-going battle between hurtling pieces of aluminium and static ground, the ground has yet to lose;
20. Good judgement comes from experience. Unfortunately the experience usually comes from bad judgement;
21. it's always a good idea to keep the pointy bit going forward as much as possible;
22. Keep looking around, there's always something you've missed;
23. Remember, gravity is not just a good idea, it's the law, and it's not subject to repeal;
24. The three most useless things to a pilot are the altitude above you, the runway behind you and a tenth of a second ago.

Finally, I'd like to die in my sleep like my father, not screaming in terror like his passengers...

Couldn't someone squeeze her into a car of somesort for the trip down?  Or is she a nervous passenger too Grin

We're travelling down from Oxford for the 07:00 Eurotunnel on the 16th, and if she's not tooooo tall we could squeeze her into the back of the Aston, if you are based somewhere near our route, of coourse. Tongue
