Ah Pete, I'm not really sure that I actually know what I'm missing as there's no resource to compare what I have to....

If you could take a few pics of what you have and send them to my website email, that'd be great.

I'll see what I can do. Currently about half way through photographing everything. Once completed I'll pop copies over.

I sold a fair few items to cotswoldroadandrace that you where unable to purchase as a punter at Le Mans from the Silk Cut jag era. Worth while speaking to them

The safety car has corrupted the results in F1 all too often in recent years, as cars run to different pit stop and tyre strategies but can win a free pit stop.  LM is a little simpler, and the old system was about as good as you'll get, but the merge and pass around mean you don't just gain a 20 pitstop, but you can gain up to a whole lap.  I suspect this comes from the Nascar principle of bunching the cars up to create more overtaking, but the whole concept is unfair.  Next clever idea will be having a raffle, and if you win you gain a free lap

You could try contacting cotswoldroadandrace - a seller on Ebay who specialises in Le Mans memorabilia.  I collect Le Mans tickets* and have bought those plus other vintage Le Mans items from Charles there.  He might make you an offer for the lot.

*If you have any tickets amongst the collection I may be interested, although I do have an extensive collection including 1993 to date, you may have some I don't have.

Hi Aysedasi, many thanks for you prompt response to this and the recommendation. I will make contact with cotswoldroadandrace

Took a quick look at your collection via the link you provided, my that is impressive! Feel free to let me know what you may have missing from the years I have mentioned and I'll see what I've got. No guarantees of course, but I have kept MOST of the tickets (encientes generales/tribunes) and contremarques etc. when used and managed to preserve most parking tickets too.

Best rgds,

Pete B.

Hi CAer's

As a regular attendee of the race since 1993 (barring 3 years when I couldn't attend) I have amassed a collection of programmes, guides, results packs, magazines previewing the event and post race reports, tickets etc. etc.  All of this material is in mint, or near mint condition (the packs sent out each year to ACO members has in fact never been opened). All this material is neatly segregated by year. The only items I intend to keep are the official copy of the poster for each year.

The time has now come for a clearout as I need the space.

Is there anyone on here who knows of a suitable outlet for all this? I have tried a couple of motorsport memorabilia sellers in the UK but no real interest, which was a little surprising. I've also attempted Ebay but the time required is considerable and no guarantee of success.

I don't really want to just recycle it all.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Pete B.

I fully agree, Barry. I also wondered occasionally why they sent out the safety cars just to retrieve one car out of the gravel on a 9 mile track. "Slow Zones" would have often been sufficcient.

Not a great fan of safety cars at LM, seen to many races ruined by them, the year the Pink Pig won, 3 of the 4 classes were basically over before half way due to safety car interventions and insurmountable time gaps when the race resumed. The cars are far to reliable these days, if a lap or even 3 minutes is lost it is very difficult to make that up.
I much prefer full course yellows.
I appreciate that some issues require the safety car to provide gaps in the traffic, however I think more situations could be covered by a FCY, especially if severe penalties were dished out to drivers taking the p*ss.
I would almost prefer to see the race red flagged, the cars pulled into the pits and then, on resumption, released in the order and time gaps than the vagaries of a SC.

Well, abandonment of the sorting of cars by category will for sure shorten the duration of each safety car phase, this simply took to much time last year. Compared to the pre-2023 procedure each safety car phase was about 15-20 minutes longer in 2023. I'm still not a fan of the "wave-by. Probably more exciting for the race but very questionable from a sporting point of view. Why the hell should cars which have lost already a full lap get this back?
