In the standard cabins on the overnight boats, are towels provided, or do you have to take your own?

I seem to recall they did have towels.  But they not that big.

Towels were provided on both of the routes we have used this year, big enough.
Go placidly amidst the noise and haste....

Are you looking to cut down on your packing by stealing them?

Back in the old P&O Pompey-Le Havre days I occasionally used their upmarket Commordore Class cabins. Very, nice, proper double bed, bath, bowl of fruit, you name it. The towels were that big and fluffy I could hardly get the suitcase lid shut.
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

I went Commodore Class from St Malo one year when travelling with a sugar daddy - it was very luxurious indeed!  Mind you,  we almost missed the ferry completely when dining in an excellent restaurant on the waterfront somewhere.... those were the days!!!

Another handy tip is to borrow Wine Glasses from the Ferry too.  Then if they break or get stolen during the stay it's no great loss to you.
