Actor Brian Bedford from John Frankenheimer's 1966 classic 'Grand Prix' died yesterday.

Brian was much better known as a Shakespearean actor.
 He spent many years, or at least summers, at his home in Stratford  Ontario.
Acting from 1975 and both acting and directing in later years. 35+ years of return engagements is an indication of his talent at both.
Apparently he was not a good driver and the racing bug never bit him

From what understand, he couldn't drive at all when they filmed GP, but obviously all of the racing footage of Scott Stoddard was actually Sir Jackie.  The onboard footage of JYS lapping Zandvoort is still awesome after fifty years.
It's been a sad week for the arts in Britain with the passing of David Bowie, Alan Rickman, and now Brian.
RIP Brian, thank you for you contribution to theatre, and to one of the all time great racing films.

Another sad loss last week was Mike Salmon - 22 years at Le Mans

In 1963 he finished fifth overall and first in his class in Maranello Concessionaires' Ferrari 330 LMB he shared with Jack Sears.  He had 3 finishes, first in 1963, then in 1977 in 17th place with an Aston Martin DBS and lastly in 1982, seventh in a Nimrod-Aston Martin.  I remember him for his GT40. He drove for John Wyer in 1967, and his own car in 1968, both DNFs
