different campsites

would everyone mind sharing which campsite they prefer and why?is there any better maps with an index showing which campsites are which?
watching all of you starting to make plans is really working on me over here.

Hi Randy My favorite is also MB beside the temp. toilet block for some reason . down the slope from a 5000 litre swimming pool

MB is probably the best, closely followed by Houx Annex. But if you want to rent an RV I'd recommend Houx as it has an electric hook up facility. Downside is the Harpers stay there.

I too am a Houx fan. The facilities are amongst the best around, it is only a short walk to the village, there is easy access to and from the site and of course if you bring the relevant adapters/cables the electrical hook up is excellent for boiling kettles, running fridges, dishwashers and cookers. Added to that is the fact you get a marked and numbered pitch, so you do not have to worry about early arrival.

Perhaps the only downside, apart from the Harpers, is that there is no view of the track.

I used to stay on MB, but as we cannot travel down till Thursday due to work commitments, and there are always 10 plus of us, it was becoming almost impossible to set up camp on arrival. The biggest problem with a free for all site, is that early arrivals have a habit of roping off areas larger than they really require, so later arrivals find that there is no room left without starting arguments.

Our preference is Houx Annexe.  It's inside the circuit and close to the 'village', grandstands, Tertre Rouge / Stella Bar, museum, Esses, fun fair, red lorry (know what I mean) - if it's there this year.

Also, there's decent toilets, water standpipes and we have great bonfires!

The map shows the northern part of the circuit where most of the camping and grandstands are -

Most stupid rules ever = Airtrack "VIP"
Most chilled out scene nb balance between beer consumption and anoraks = MB
Best chance of getting a Sat night kip = near end of Houx
Biggest Mountains = Houx Annexe

I've tried a few now, and for me it has to be Maison Blanche. Particularly as half this forum are also on there so the atmosphere is great!

Houx Annexe is pretty good, and over the last couple of years has had plenty of spare space. But in the wet it can turn into a bog and if it's too dry you end up with a dust bowl (hence why Steve's group camp near a hosepipe to dampen down the tracks)

As for track viewing it looks to me like Karting Nord is a winner. You'd get away with a first-level scaffolding to have a very proper look at all the cars coming by.
I don't know too much about different atmospheres around different camping sites. Have to admit I do believe the succes of LeMans'05 is for a great part down to yourself. Travel down there with a happy face, other wise stay home.

Whilst the shade aspect is a great thing when the weather is HOT, there is one small drawback. Those bloody great pine cones (they are about the size of a cola can) have the habit of falling out of the trees quite regularly at that time of year, and the trees are quite high (no, not from the strange tobacco some people smoke, I mean high as in tall   ).

So, if you have a decent motor or value your paintwork, be VERY careful where you actually park it.
