Lucky escape

Some of you may know or have heard of my Mother in Law

She started taking flying lessons and got her license a few years ago .

Yesterday afternoon, she narrowly escaped injury when the aircraft she was piloting was forced to make an emergency landing in a large garden because of bad weather, and subsequently  crashed.

AAIB (Air Accident Investigation Board) officials have issued a preliminary report citing pilot error as a significant contributory factor to the accident, the reason being that she was flying a basic model in IMC (Instrument Meteorological
Conditions) whilst only having obtained a VMC (Visual
MeteorologicalConditions)  rating.

In their preliminary report, the AAIB implied that absence of a post-crash fire was most likely due to insufficient fuel on board. In most, if not all cases, poor fuel management is a failing on the part of the pilot.

Fortunately, no one on the ground was injured.

Attached photograph was taken at the scene and shows the extent of damage to her aircraft.

She was very, very lucky

I'm very glad you were not caught in any fall of debris Bob,

Do you think they will rescind her PPL after this? Or will they take the New Labour "Its nothing to do with us" attitude?

It's a worry!

Sounds like Irelands worst ever aviation accident.

A cessna 152 crashed into a cemetery outside Cork last week.

The gardai have found 127 bodies, and expect to find more as digging continues.
