Hi to all CAers here, especially anyone from the South West.

I'm from Plymouth and make the trip to Le Mans via Roscoff every year.

Hope to see some of you in 2005 at Beausejour campsite and around the circuit.

 :)

Hi Pilgrim, from here in sunny (?) South Wales.

I've never been to Plymouth but was considering it as an alternative crossing as it's around the same distance as Portsmouth for me. Are there a lot of LeMans'ers that make the trip from Plymouth to Roscoff? What's the atmosphere like on your crossing?

We were going to change to this crossing this year but didn't get much feedback when I asked on here a while ago about this particular route.

Hi Pilgrim

Welcome to CA

I am the nearest to you so far outside of Plymouth - 3 miles off J23 M5 (near Bridgwater).  There must be someone closer though.  I've been going to LM since'65, so this year will be the 40th anniversary of my 1st visit.  Yes, I'm a wrinkley - it's official now as I had the big 60 yesterday.

Usually go out thru Pompey - only 100 miles from here.

Once again - welcome

DB

What's the fishing like off Plymouth?  I'm afraid the North Sea is a bit depleted of cod and coley how and I've been forced to import that Mexican cat fish with the big eyes.  It puts the punters off unless I cut the head off first!

Get 'em while they're hot.......they're lurvly

Quite a few people go to Le Mans via Plymouth, usually on the Tursday before the race.

The atmosphere is pretty laid back on the ferry, with a mixed crowd, young and old.

One big advantage of going via Plymouth is that Brittany Ferries don't seem to jack the price up like they do on the Portsmouth route. I've been as a foot passenger for about £50 return, and a mate took us in his car for about £160 return.

The only downside is the relatively long drive to and from the circuit, but you can't have everything I suppose.

The fishing is said to be pretty good by the way.
