Sebring 2005 UK (south contingent) planning
« on: January 07, 2005, 06:29:56 pm »
As it's just over 8 weeks away, can I suggest those of us who are going and have not sorted flights etc get our heads together and co-ordinate and arrange the necessary.

I'm assuming me, Andy Z and JP Chenet plus possibly Rick C and others?

BA are having a 'World Offers' booking promotion until January 15th and United also have some good prices - Miami is cheaper than Orlando currently.

Car hire? Camping gear? Am I missing anything?

It need not necessarily be a boozy evening in the pub but maybe a phone call or meet up over a PC screen to book the flights.  I can drive down to deepest darkest Sussex / Surrey / Matebeleland if need be.

Steve

Yikes! It hadn't really twigged with me that it was so close as 8 weeks!

I think a meet up is virtually essential. Unfortunately I'm away from tomorrow until the 15th throwing myself off the top of some Alps. I still have a load of JPC's and Mr Spyders kit in my shed, left over from Classic. He's been promising to get his butt down here to pick it up for month's. So it seems a good enough excuse to meet. My local has very lax liscencing hours and I can put you up. I'm sure the village tramp will have moved out of the Commer by the weekend. Could do the evening of the 15th if you want?

You have my mobile no. if you need to talk during the week.

Cheers

Andy Z.
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

Andy, Sat 15th Jan is fine with me, I'll bring my bivouac and credit card with me.

Can you PM me your address and detailed and overly complicated directions.

Muchos gracias.

To Steve and Andy and any other interested party.

Look at  the last entry on the previous thread on SEBRING 2005.

I live in Miami and will be more than willing to lend a helping hand to make it easy for some of you.

Smokie, Phil, Chris, Fax the Harpers and some others can shed much information on the routine of Sebring.

I will do my best to get you a ride from Miami to Sebring if necessary.

Now if I can only convince Powermite to convince his lovely wife to loan him the funds to 'come on down!'. ::)

Is this just for Sebring virgins or can anyone come?  :) (Not ure yet abou thte date but if I can I will...)

I went onto the BA World Sale site yesterday to see how much I could have saved if I'd delayed my booking. It would actually have cost me £40 more. Good sale, BA!!

Pidge, many thanks.  We'll keep you up to date with what we've 'planned'.

Smokie, your Sebring knowledge would be appreciated (and drinking experience)  ;)

Saturday 15th may be a problem for me. I won't know my availability until the middle of this week!!

IIRC, the tent at Andy's is classed as a 6 man one with three sleeping compartments. I don't think it's too big or heavy so taking it with us if we need to shouldn't be too much of a problem!! I guess then it's just a sleeping bag (I think Smokie said you can get one in the shops out there pretty cheap, especialy with the dollar rate as it is) and an airbed!

1 man airbed at Walmart is $10 or at least it was two years ago when I bought mine.

There is one 6 man sleeping tent available to all visitors from the continent or the UK. :)
If necessary another 6 man tent will be purchased for the same visitors.  ;)
There are several shade / rain covers at our camp site as well as miscellaneous tables and chairs.  8)
I have suggested that you travel light on the plane. Just bring a sleeping bag. :-\ clean socks and underwear. :o
As Chris said, Wal Mart has just about everything else. Throwaway coolers are cheap and available. Bar B Que  burners, paper plates, plastic utensils, meats and groceries, condiments, breads, you name it ....... Wal Mart has it. :) :)
Ice and beer is available at the race circuit sold by the local veteran associations. ;)
Breakfast is on me. Smokie prefers the American bacon over the English bacon.  ???  But otherwise it'll be in the English style. :P
Also I have stoves to cook or fry or roast or toast or boil or ...........

Yes I know, but he has his mobile with him!!

Can  you email the address and directions please. I have been there once but a refresher would be good!!

Even though he's not coming to Sebring, hopefully we can get Gibberish to join us at the local hostelry?!
