grandstand access- best time
« on: June 11, 2005, 12:35:27 pm »
This year I've splashed out on a grandstand seat (No 16 sommer,).

Should be well positioned according to the plan.

I remember a few years ago I watched the start from the area in front of the stand and from probably 14:30 it was packed in front making access very difficult.

Question is what time should I take my seat ??

I'd be well miffed if I didn't see the start due to not being able to get in!

It can get a bit crowded along the pit straight by the track, however if you walk along behind the stand by the shops and food outlets, you can just go up the steps either side of the grandstand.

It does not really matter what time, but the sound system in the stand can get a bit load so I would avoid spending to much time in there before the race.
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.

Ear defenders can be usefull , as the volume of the usually over excited French commentators can be hard to take, especially if you are trying to listen to radio Le Mans

Just make sure you are in your seat when the the Hawian Tropic girls walk the grid. Worth the cost of the grandstand ticket itself!!!

enjoy

Nah it'll be quiet this year at 3 am. I asked the ACO last weekend if they could stop the race from 11 pm Saturday till just after Church on Sunday so I could get some sleep.   ::)

I hear this is correct, but there will be a couple of safety cars running for the extra 8 hours - both Pescarolos.  Anyway I'm in bed by 10

And the French Tannoy is far to loud.  I suspect its that powerful it interferes with our radios.  I'd expect to hear the local taxis occaisionally, but not the PA.

Anyway about 3pm is good, but it may take you 30 minutes to get there, as there is a bottleneck behind Jaguar/Nissan/the other one.  The is now a road behind the Ford Grandstand so thats clear.

Thanks

Good point about the ear defenders though, I'll be packing today so I'll blow the brick dust off the "ARCOs" in the Garage, red or blue which colour is in this year?

4 days and I'm on my way!

Stu, the entrance to Sommer (one of the temporary stands) is around the back.

11 of us are in the same stand, we'll be there from midday-ish onwards
