Youngest winner?
« on: October 17, 2005, 09:52:26 am »

Does anyone know who the youngest winner of Le Mans was?

And, when it was, etc?

Thank you.
Le Mans is for the week......not just 24hrs!

I think it was Alex Wurz winning in 1996 at the age of 22

Thank you, Werner.

As there are no other replies and I don't have a clue, I'll go with that.

Are you only considering overall winner, or perhaps just a class win (i.e. GT2)

Claims Clint Field is the youngest winner at Le Mans at 21.

He won LMP2

Without consulting a book, Chris Amon was probably the youngest overall winner in '66 but could be wrong.
Just a guess.

just looked it up, Amon was born July 43, so he was 23 when he won at Le Mans in 66, one year older than Wurz was when he scored his victory in 1996

Gunnar Jeannette is the youngest ever classified finisher when he drove in 2000 in the dotty GT3-R (which proudly sported my web address on the back!).

He was a mere 18 years and a tad over a month old at the time! He was still 17 at the test weekend!!!
