Sounds like he opened the door and the lift car wasn't there.  These things are supposed to have interlocks and be tested periodically!

Looks like he's lucky to be alive.  Maybe whilst he convalesses, he can have a read of this - http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1998/19982307.htm

The Original Stig [Perry McCarthy] has sent a fax to the hospital congratulation SSM on setting a new record of 3-storeys in 1.5 seconds.

SMM is apparently quite amused by this!

I'm impressed say's he will be up in 6 weeks. Not bad considering his age.

Apparently his whole house if full of electric gadgets from the 60s, such as power assisted curtains, with lots of little buttons and lights.  I suspect the lift was made by the same people rather than a lift company

I am guessing that he won't be turning up as one of the three guests of honour at Amelia Island this weekend. Ahh well, I will have to make do with Richard Petty now.

Never mind

I think the actual lift is made of carbon fibre and was designed by Frank Williams........but maybe he didn't design the control system.

I have just finished reading "Who do you think you are ... Michael Schumacher?" by Ian Stafford.  That had a really good description of meeting Sterling Moss and his mews house (including the lift)!   It has some nice insights into some F1 drivers past and present - who would have thought that David Coulthard was a proper party animal!

They did sponsor one once!

Sir Stirling is the Ulitmate blagger from my own experiance. I doubt Otis wanted to give him one!

Quite correct, he has a computer that fits a room.

If he does make the Classic and you get to meet him don't ask him if he wants a lift!!  ;D

I have always thought, unlike a lot of you probably, that he was a bit full of himself, oh, and a a real tight fisted blagger*.
