Any good suggestions for a hotel in Miami (South Beach ?) and the Keys.
We"re flying into Miami on the Saturday before Sebring, planning to get to Key West and take a walk in Miami.  Driving on to Sebring on Wednesday morning.

Thanks !

About 8 years ago me and Mrs B stayed in the South Beach area (as I love the Art Deco architecture there).  North Miami beach is mostly more modern chrome and glass boxes but South Beach is where the real gems are.

We stayed at the Ritz Plaza then - this appears to now have had an expensive makeover as the SLS South Beach.

Have a look at http://www.artdecohotels.com/ or http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g34439-d85104-Reviews-Colony_Hotel-Miami_Beach_Florida.html if that appeals.

If you're traveling down the Keys, unless you're a scuba diver, the place to head to is Key West.  We stayed in the Hibiscus Motel (a Best Western) which is right downtown http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g34345-d126508-Reviews-BEST_WESTERN_PLUS_Hibiscus_Motel-Key_West_Florida_Keys_Florida.html

You're either at Le Mans, or waiting for Le Mans!

Kristof,

Regarding the Keys, PM either Gab or Smokie as they are regulars at staying in Key West over the years, me I just slept in the front seat of my car. So they may be able to offer advice.

Some advice I can offer though is that you need to allow at leat 3 hours to drive from Key West to Miami and vice versa the other way. Also allow about 3 hours to drive from Miami to Sebring.

Regards
Chris

Hi Kristoff,
With its small streets and numerous BARS Key West is best explored on foot Grin
Some of my friends stayed here last month.right in the old town.
http://www.spanishgardensmotel.com/
Be sure to catch the sunset from Mallory pier lots of street preformers make the wait entertaining Smiley
The speed limit from Key Largo is 45mph (70kmh) most of the way so allow lots of time.
The Everglades NP is a good day out from Florida City (Homestead) Stop at the visitor centre for the short film/presentation about the Everglades makes the visit more interesting.
South Beach is an easy visit but the hotels are expensive and Spring Break may mean they are all booked anyway. The ArtDeco area is quite small as i am sure you will want a picture or two Grin
Hollywood Beach  near Fort Lauderdale is worth a visit if you like to enjoy a cool beer  and watch the girls go by on the boardwalk(concrete path)

Looking forward to seeing you in Sebring.
