Button WEC dream fades as he is re-signed by McLaren

This morning Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button were confirmed as 2015 drivers for McLaren-Honda.

It does leave Kevin Magnussen looking for a drive now though!
Are Audi looking for anyone to fill the void they have for the Danish fans!?

Along with his fathers Le Mans heritage, plus a previous driver for Audi Japan Team GOh

I don't think he has much choice.

I can't see him being of interest to a works WEC team with his limited experience even assuming McLaren were prepared to allow him to race for another manufacture not to mention the potential harm to an asset.

To be honest I prefer it when the WEC teams promote from within, people like Nick Tandy deserve the chance and could bring more to a team than a fast tracked F1 driver IMHO.

Agree entirely - but what impact will TK's retirement have on the Danish contingent that come to LM?
Will they still come in such big numbers?

That is a huge market demographic for Audi and the ACO.

Anyways - as I said. Just speculating  ;D

To keep their drivers race fit and sharp, maybe McLaren could consider a GTS (or LMP1/2) program. They are after all a builder of high end sports cars and did rather well the last time they pitched up at Le mans.

Fanciful dreaming, Button, Mags and Alonso in one car at Le mans, could be a bit of a PR coup for McLaren!

Mclaren have just released the 650s special to celebrate 20 year aniversary of their win with the F1. They would be missing a trick if they did'nt bloody race. The publicity would be huge.

Now they will have to wait until the GT3 and GT rules are looked into again.
