Lofty,

What a great question. It really got me thinking.

I am too young for Can Am, but the idea of few rules and unlimited capacity would result in great viewing.

I don't like to see identikit cars and I'm really happy that we see different approaches to solving the same problem. I also like to see innovation, so the diesels, hybrids and deltawinng cars are fantastic.  Something to encourage more variations would be good, and reduce the cost of creating them so that people took risks in doing them, but also rules that are not so static that a winning approach becomes standard.

I like the efficiency angle, but not how it has been applied because currently it means a that drivers are being told by their engineers to go easy or coast in order to save fuel. We cannot see what is really happening.

I would like to see a standardisation on the fuels to ones that we put in our own cars.  Super fuel feels like cheating.

Maybe less aero, or less hidden aero.  You could see what a car was deploying.

How about street circuits.  The Le Mans race is so linked to the city - not just the parade, but the use of public roads and the history of the original route and it is that connection that is an attraction.  I can just imagine the Six Hours of London around Park Lane or Trafalgar Square.  Mayor Boris would love it!

This is really a discussion over a beer or two....

I can see fully electric cars which just fit a fully charged cell in a pit stop playing with the carbon fueled motors but what else may be instore? Do races even need tarmac? levitating cars to reduce friction perhaps. Le Mans defo needs much better sectator viewing, grandstands at the chicanes are a must for me with an extended tram system down to Mulsane corner. I'm thinking of more stuff but must remember, there are no rules.

Ah, Lofty, I see.

Well, I would like to see a good 50% of the grid being girls for a start.  Grin

How about getting rid of the catch fencing and replacing it with fencing that jumps up if it's needed?

How about a box of electronics that keeps you wide awake when you want and you just change the setting to sleep later?

Looks more ambitious, how about the ability to influence the weather. One microclimate for the track, another for the spectators?

Or more prosaic, how about free wifi and the ability to tap into the telemetry of the cars?

Yea the wifi thingy would make understanding the race easy and more comfy thanearphones. Automatic refill beer tins would be a must. Women drivers is ok but they gotta be upto spec. More big tellys or a superdoopa headsup display in your sunglasses. Why not? Jump up catch fencing, good idea but may prsent marshals with problemos. Keep the ideas coming it's making the winter better, thanks dude.
