Don't the 1960s hold the record for mass entries - about 9 works Fords and 7 Ferraris.  Then in the late 1980s, you had 5 Jaguars, 3 Porsches, 3 Toyotas, 5 Nissans, and 3 Mazdas in GTP.  The Sauber Mercs would show up occasionally too.

These were the best years and it looks like we're heading that way now.

In 1999 we had a combination if GT1 and Prototypes giving 16 works cars.

3 Toyotas
3 Merc (had a few problems)
4 Audi
2 Panoz
2 BMW
2 Nissan

plus a number of quasi works cars from BMW (DPR) and Courage Nissan
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.

My first Le Mans as well. Something I'll always remember fondly and with great pleasure.
