Media statement : Newhaven-Dieppe service
03 March 2005

Cross Channel fast ferry operator Hoverspeed today confirmed that Transmanche Ferries has withdrawn from negotiations regarding the future operation of the Newhaven to Dieppe route.

Managing Director Geoffrey Ede, said "We have been in discussions for some time regarding the charter by Transmanche of the SuperSeacat vessel to be manned by Hoverspeed crew. It is disappointing for us, but more importantly our passengers that negotiations have broken down. The service which was scheduled to restart on 28 April will not now operate and the craft will be redeployed".

Mr Ede said that the company will contact all passengers who have booked on the route and assign them to crossings on other Hoverspeed services. "Taking care of our passengers is our first priority" said Geoffrey Ede.

Hoverspeed started the summer seasonal service on the Newhaven to Dieppe route in 1999 when P&O Stena Line pulled out.
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.

Have just this morning booked a return crossing with Speedferries.com for Le Mans weekend. £34.00 return (yes thirty four pounds, I haven't missed off a 1) plus £10 per person each way for first class upgrade.  Maybe they haven't yet caught on that Le Mans is on that weekend.  Mind you, sounds like that lots of Le Mans goers haven't yet caught on about speedferries.

Depends on when you want to go, quite a few departures around LM are full. If you can get departures that suit you then the price is almost unbeatable.

Welcome to Club Arnage, Liam.

Been using them all winter. Only one cock up.
As to the Hoverpeed Newhaven-Dieppe service, James Sherwood (ultimate owner of Hoverspeed) was asking serious money for something which lost around 2.5 million euros last year. The French said no thanks, 2 new boats come into service next year (2006).

I am seriously thinking about cutting a few inches from the trailer to get on their ferry next year.

Speed Ferries are a god send.

Looking at Pistonheads most of the TVR owners are on the Monday morning crossing.
Take life by the horns and live it.

P&O have started bombarding me with emails about cheaper tickets., to be booked by 11 April and only for certain crossings.  With the caravan they are down to about £190 which is the same as last year, but is £140 cheaper than the same crossing was when I priced it at Christmas.

So, their smart marketing has lost them, my business, as I booked with Norfolkline instead.

Anyway, if you haven't booked yet and are determined to part with cash, P&O are doing offers. Car + 9 for £60 IIRC

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem.

3h 45m is my best time from Calais and, although quick, that wasn't really hammering it too hard. Boulogne is about 30 - 40 mins closer than Calais so I would guess a "legal" journey would be about the 4 - 4 1/2 hr hour mark.

I like speedferries for it's quicker loading time, shorter check-in time and shorter crossing time.

Nobby Diesel

Sounds good Smokie.
Still looking at an early afternoon arrival then.
Ahh, Stella for lunch.

Thanks for welcomes to CA
We're on the 07:45 on Friday, and 00:30 on Monday morning.  Have always used the tunnel on previous trips so looking forward to the change.

M1lky24

mostly booked up now for return on Monday!!

Doh!!

Snoring Rhino

Looking ahead for next year, maybe we can get a bunch of us together and go for a block booking with Speedferries, doubt if it could be much cheeper, but we maybe able to reserve a decent crossing time slot especially on the return, I could only get 10.30 return on Monday, which frankley I do not expect to make - will have to chance a no show slot later and pay the premium.
