So farewell then Rover (or Austin or Morris or whatever your name was). They've put you out of your misery at long last. We'll regret your passing, though perhaps not some of the crap cars you produced.

Last but not least, this is why they went bust. Selling overpriced sh it like this. Apparently they paid the indians £1800 each for these and had the gall to try and flog them to us for £9000. I think they sold half a dozen to various grannys.

Sad for all the poor buggers who worked at Longbridge - but it seemed a pretty hopeless cause. The cars were shoite, in the main, it has to be said. I had the misfortune to run a Metro Turbo, a Montego and a Rover 800 at various points in my chequered motoring career - none of them were highlights. The Metro I remember for being more wheezing than my wife's Fiesta. The Montego was memorable for being the car which I ran over a gypo in and the 800 was the nastiest clunker I've ever had - and I've had plenty! I do wish I'd got my hands on an SD1 Vitesse however. As a spotty faced school kid, I figured it was a poor man's Vantage. I also remember Tony Pond crashing one into a tree in Sutton Park, which was a kind of undignified start to it's rally career.

Ahh the good old days of the british motor industry - they dont angle plan for profit like they used to - no wonder they went broke.

What i could never understand with rover is they are a small manufacturer in a big market. Why not bring back some of the old names they have the rights to and instant niche market. Imagine a new cheap mg 2 seater, a hairy chested Triumph, perhaps a fire breathing Healey. They don't have to be weighed down with gadgets just put a smile on your face. Was it to much to ask.

Gutted.
My "Dead Dog" is an awesome car, its simple, starts every time and does what i want and a bit more from a car.
I dont want a car to tell me to belt up, stop my wheels spinning or changing gear for me.
I good drivers car, not a sofa on wheels.
Mine maybe an MG version, but its a Rover 45 with bodykit and some nicer handling parts.
Oh well.
time to support Germany or Poland, say Zig Hile, bowe at Hitler and forget i am british.

Land of hope and glory, glug, glug glug. It's all turning to ratshit Robbo, get out while you still can! Be an Law Enforcement Officer over here - you can shoot the bad guys and get a slap on the back for your effort. England's 'ad it. Last one out, turn the lights off and give the keys to the Armenians and Kazakstani's.
