iPod

I know some of you lads and lasses are quite clued in with all this new fangled technology !
I have an iPod mini and now, Mrs Nobby wants one (pink, naturally). Does anyone know if it is possible to set up or run 2 seperate libraries of music in iTunes.
I don't want to load a second lot of software and we only have 1 laptop at home.
I've been onto the iPod equivalent of Club Arnage forum; my god, I thought we needed to get out more!!!

I was fiddling with this to get my Le Mans music onto the iPod this year. I didn't find a way (I took the laptop itself anyway).

However...

Do you use XP, and if so, do you and Mrs Diesel have separate accounts on the same machine? If you have different accounts then I imagine you could instal iTunes separately under each logon (for that logon only) and in that way you can have separate iTunes libraries. Not sure it would work, but has to be worth a look?

Or maybe you could use a shared music store, but use Playlists to manage what gets updated to the iPod. I think! (Manual sync must be an option???)

What in the blue blazes is all this techno-babble? I have not the faintest idea what is being spoken about here. I was giving consideration to buying an iPod in Sebring, but I don't think I'll bother now. I only wanted to listen to my Chas 'n' Dave but to do so I've never previously needed an account with them.  ???

Whitey, now you got me! I had a great Radiomobile 8 track in my Renault 12 TS Automatic, which was my mum's old car. But I only had about five tapes, as they were pretty unobtainable even by the the early eighties. I had Ray Coniff and his band (Hello Young Lovers), Tony Bennett, Jim Reeves, a rock n roll compilation and an Eric Clapton live in Japan thingy. Music was a bit limited on a long journey.

Come on Smokie come clean.  I sat round the caravan campfire on a number of evenings with you guys and heard some of the music from the xp player, i'm sure in the capable hands of someone who knows even a little bit it would of worked.  Admit it your back in the dark ages with the rest of us.

Hi Nobby,
Easiest way to do this is to create separate playlist folders for yourself and the missus in itunes and copy them over. They should come up on the ipod as individual folders. I did this when I updated my ipod last year for the bike trip to Italy.
I think you'll have to do this manually rather than the usual auto update as it will write over everything.
When you plug the ipod in it will come up on the itunes window. Click on that and you will be able to select the playlists you've created that you want copied over.

PS. I do have a bundle of old 8track tapes in my loft if any of you lot still have a machine and are interested. PMme and I'll get a list together.All quality of course. ;D

That wasn't the same Jim Reeves 8 track that I had whilst owning a Ford Corsair GT was it- The "Intimate Jim Reeves"

Does anyone know how to wire an ipod (or similar) into the back of a car stereo (the cassette with the wire coming out of it is pretty awful).  There must be a socket for the optional CD changer on mine.

Did Radio White House reappear this year.  I missed the Derek & Clive Live

You can get a radio transmitter to attach to the iPod then tune your car radio to the transmitter. Illegal in this country but widely avaiolable on eBay.

Tried that last year.The trouble with itrip is that it is ok once you've found a free fm channel but as you drive the local frequencies keep over powering it. It's a bastard. Great at home and in tunnels though.
Better to get self powered speakers and use those. Did that this year in the hire van and they worked a fecking treat. Try Altec Lansing Inmotion portable. Not bad for a ton and you can use them anywhere you go abroad or home. Failing that, upgrade your ice amp so that it has an auxilary audio input and bingo.

Lots of the ICE manufacturers are now making their units iPod compatible.
It's fairly Heath Robinson I believe, but it seems to work.
If you look at any of the mainstream ICE ranges, you'll see lots of them now have this feature.
I think the likes if Beemer, Audi etc are offering it as an extra at build time too. It consists of a lead into your glove box. i'm not sure if anyone is making anything whereby the iPod docks into the dash yet.
