Just got hold of a small chest freezer for pre-cooling beer, meaning the fridge will just have to cope with food items.

LAst year it was forever de-frosting.

The program had two families who had to make a beer cooler and a vegetable thrower out of items contained in there house.
One family took out their central heating pipework and coiled it round two cans, They then used a gas bottle connected one end and the expanding gas cooled the cans down to 11C. The gas was burnt off at the other end.
Although this shows potential, its the thought of the billowing flame in your campsite that puts me off. You could is suppose have the gas powering the barbe, but you would have to have hell of alot of gas for all those days of drinking.
The other family also took the central heating pipes out but coiled them down from a funnel, wrapped them in cloth, placed a fan underneath. They wet the cloth switched the fan on and poured the beer in, Cooled it to 7C, but looked fizzy!
Can't see that one working on the campsite. Have to be careful no one pees in it when your not there.

Quickest wa sto blast the cans of beer with a fire extinguisher. Second best was to immerse cans of beer into a cool box container SALTED iced water. The salt reduces the freezing temperature. Room temperature cans were reduced to (below) optimum chilled drinking temperature in 5 minutes.

I bet if I were to try cooling my beer with a fire extinguisher I would just end up with cans of beer covered in blooming dry powder...

I suppose they mean to use co2 or Halon to cool the beer down did they?

CO2 is okay for a quick chill.  Halon would put you in the ground, 6 foot under in short order, and you would be chilled for ever.

A fire extinguisher could double up as having some good additional safety benefits on MB!

Hmm, I wonder about that Halon thing though. In my long career on the road I used Halon extinguishers several times on car fires. I know I am not very healthy but unless it gives one Osteoarthritis, I haven't been killed by them. They do make the "scene" very-y-y-y-y cold though...

I realise though that it is long term effects that have caused the ban. So kids, don't do that at home or on Houx Annexe anywhere near me!

We had a small bar top ice machine, bought from a website who specialise in home bars and stuff. It was £100, but we borrowed it from a mate whose got his own bar at home, so twas free.

We searched old pub's and demolishan firms but the only thing we found was huge and needed a 4 bar water supply, which is a tad much.

They started banning Halon about 10 years ago, so you'll be lucky to find any.

They don't sell it at the track Randy. A couple of the camp sites get visited by Pikies selling stale bread and ice but they charge a small fortune for it.

The hypermarkets have caught on at last and started to sell it, but again it's only in small bags so not cheap.

I approached a company here in Basingstoke who make the ice for major UK sprting functions, but they said they cannot produce and store enough to do Le Mans as well as the UK sporting events that take place in June.

I'm looking at building a stock over the year and taking it down frozen in a chest freezer. The freezer will then be employed to chill more beer and wine.

Any further news on your plans Randy? How many of you are there likely to be coming over in 2006?
