Le Mans - Cheap ferry

I've been extravagant, I've booked P&O @£155 for car and caravan (Seafrance was only £140 but the times weren't ideal for the F1).  With cheap hotel on way down and extra petrol its about £300, compared to £450+ for a Portsmouth route.  I can then link up with the Kent end of the team on the 5am Monday ferry.

Not booked my ferry yet, wasn't sure which route to take, but just re-checked LD Lines and I got a price of £167 for a car + 2, going out on the 14th coming back on the 19th, no cabins left tho, but a lot less than Brittany.

I usually go Dover-Calais, but at 13mpg it looks like Portsmouth-Le Havre will work out cheaper with the shorter drive both sides of the channel!

That's out, not back, but the last time I went that way, some were in the Pub till 3.  Well no point in going to bed.

we booked end of last year and the price was even less - £130 i think..

Maybe so Gary, but for those of us that prefer a long ferry crossing and a shorter drive LD Lines are proving to be a bit of a bargain! £200 for the minibus Sunday to Monday as opposed to £360 with Brittany to Caen!!

I've booked with LD, so we'll see some of you guys in Portsmouth.

The VomitComit might be cheaper, but with a longer drive for me either side, adding in the cost of fueling the Aston it doesn't always work out cheaper overall, plus we get a bit of kip on the way over and can be at LM before lunchtime.  And I can do home to LM on under a tankfull (but then it is a 25 gallon tank), whereas from Calais I have to refuel on the way.

412 Euros!!!

At least I get a cabin each way as its a 18 hour crossing!

Per hour that is incredibly cheap.  You'll pay close to that for  a portsmouth ferry. 

Us southerners tend to forget that some people have a long way to go, and NI to Rosslare must be a five hour drive to add on top, even in a 7.

Mind you, I've always been surprised at the lack of Irish involvement in what must be biggist pissup in the world.  You'd expect them to be running the show, and there's not even an Irish Bar, and Paddy turns out to be Dutch

Gary I have saved LD lines in my bookmarks for next year. Last night they were threatening Pompey to France for £75 return.
I wish I wasn't travelling under the water in the tin worm, I always said they'd never get me down in one of those things...

Still, walking's getting better and better so I AM going to be there!

There is actually a very active sevens community over here and we've organised our own trackdays last year and this year.  A few of them joined the cross-USA sevens tour last year, and this year a few are going to Cahmonix, with cars, for a weeks blatting about the alps.  You're right though.  To find a massive party without a huge Irish contingent is a bit strange.  Maybe it's the lack of a guinness tent, or the fact that you have to get there in "one o dem big mettle fishies" that put's them off!
