Spy Photos: Audi R10 crash UPDATE #2 A bit more info from eyewitnesses of the crash. The nose of the R10 started to rise a la the flying Mercedes at LeMans several years ago that flipped up and flew thru the air and into the forest. The R10 apparently hit a bump in the track exiting turn one, and the left side got a little air, and that started the chain reaction. The R10 actually was in the air for what seemed like a while. Then it went over upside down backwards into the tire wall.

What happened to Allan McNish while testing at Sebring?
About 30 minutes before the end of the private Audi Sport test session at Sebring, Allan spun with the #2 Audi R10 TDI in Turn 1 and crashed rearwards into the tire wall. When the car hit the tire wall it turned slowly over and ended upside-down.
03/22/06 Unconfirmed reports say that wind was blamed for the accident. Notice how quickly Audi had the car covered up so our photographer did not have time for better close-up photos. Guess they did not want us to see the underside of the car in too much detail.
03/22/06 The day after this weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring race the Audi team stayed in Sebring to run further tests on their new diesel powered Audi R10. Well the test didn't go exactly as planned as the Audi crashed and ended upside down as these photos depict. We apologize for the graininess but spy photos sometimes are shot at great distances. Note that this crash was kept hush-hush by Audi and ALMS.
